Well, it's not. 'Lobscows' is a similar and traditional dish in north Wales. The English spelling, from what I can gather is 'lobscouse' from which you get lobby. Maybe this is how scouse evolved. I'm a bit scratchy on this so probably best not to quote me.

The programme stated 'scouse' was probably a Nordic word for stew and thats that! Also I was fuming at the dirty old town theme too!
Tripe the new steak Diane - Salford to be renamed as 'The Tripe belt' instead! Good luck in trying it mate, my advice - stay well away!

| I've not had good tripe in Salford for a couple of decades: usually try markets on this side of the conurbation whre there can, with difficulty, be found proper tripe dressers.

The BBC need to do their homework about Salford if they can't place 'Dirty Old Town'.
I have to say that the best tripe I ever ate was from a mobile vendor next to the big market in Florence. It had a hot tomato sauce and was frickn lovely. If we ever get an Italian team in SuperLeague I would recommend it for away games.
I might give steak diane a go, though. In the 60s and 70s life was so much simpler at our house - a posh night out was going to the restaurant next to Worsley Civic Halls. Or that one on the East Lancs that's now a Premier Inn. Prawn cocktail, steak and chips, black forest gateau, Irish coffee, an argument with our kid and a smack from me mum. Job done. Balls to Hector Blumenfart.

=#FF0000Hmm. Thanks for the advice. Although in truth, this makes me more intrigued I'm afraid.

Just go to a decent supermarkets meat counter and say you were thinking about trying it and can you have a taster! Saves wasting anymore money on the stuff!
P.S. make sure you got something to wash your mouth out afterwards!

There'll be an apple flavoured lucozade at the ready.
