Despite their disappointment in the General Election, it was a big night for the Labour party in Salford. They gained councillors in Weaste and Seedley, Claremont and Swinton South at the Liberal Democrats' expense.
In Weaste and Seedley, Lib Dem incumbent John Deas lost out despite increasing his share by 600 votes. Seemingly, of the expected turnout increase for the general election, most voted Labour. Also notable was the battle for Claremont, where Mary Ferrer lost on a recount. Ferrer is (or was) a leading figure in opposition to the Buile Hill Mansion plans; she was also most vocal against Salford City Council's loan to build the new stadium. Make what you will of that result.

| I wonder if Norman "apathy" Owen will now resign as Leader of the very small Fib Dem party, surely 5 councillors means he will lose his column in the Advertiser, or should the independants get a weekly column too.

Posh and enlightened considering that JJ and ccno1fan frequent the area although they drink in Walkden North so I may be wrong.

| 22,000+ Conservative votes in Salford surprised me to be honest. So maybe 1,000 of Salford Hard Core are Right Wing. Never realised that high a % age.

| its about right with an electorate of about 75000, a third would be tory and about half labour, there is also a large student population who vote in Salford and some of these may be tory voters, my Gran used to vote tory because they were gentlemen in her mind and her employer told the workforce that it was best for them to vote tory, but that was before WW11.

Well from what I've read before, I'd guess not even the Tories are right wing enough for you...
