Salford replicated their famous win over St Helens last season, running out 42-34 victors in a thrilling engage Super League clash at The Willows.
This nip-and-tuck affair could have gone either way but Ryan Boyle's late score gave the Reds, who outscored their opponents eight tries to six, another memorable victory over the Saints, who came into this one on back of six-game winning run and desperate for two points to keep pace with leaders Wigan.
The Reds got off to the dream start when, following an up and under, Matty Smith hacked the ball towards the posts and threw himself on top of it to score.
It was the first of three tries for the Saints man, currently on loan at their neighbours, and his side were always in front from then on.
Ashley Gibson (2), Jodie Broughton, Daniel Holdsworth and Boyle late on, scored the other tries for the hosts.
For Saints, James Graham (2), Scott Moore, Ade Gardner, Paul Wellens and Kyle Eastmond went over.
