| Moving on to halfbacks, and to save time, doing both halfback positions at the same time. I thik the list below is pretty exhaustive of everyone who's done a few games at half back (and in some cases few really does mean that). Initial thoughts from the list suggest some real class acts and a hell of a lot of filler.
Andrew Dunemann
Bobbie Goulding
Cliff Beverley
Craig Murdock
Darren Brown
Francis Maloney
Gavin Clinch
Graham Holroyd
Jeremy Smith
John Duffy
John Wilshere
Karl Fitzpatrick
Karle Hammond
Kevin McGuinness
Lee Marsh
Luke Dorn
Luke Robinson
Martin Crompton
Radney Bowker
Richard Myler
Robbie Paul
Simon Svabic
Stefan Ratchford
Stephen Myler
Tim Hartley

| I think what's most disappointing is how much Robinson and Myler promised, and how easily they chcuked in the towel. I'd say even more so Myler

| A Myler/Dunnemann hybrid would be perfect for number 7. Not possible so I guess I'll jump off the fence and go, erm, Dunners for number 7 on the basis he did a grand job in winding Dave Solomona up in the year we beat Bradford at home. ('07?) It all kicked off and Dunners taunted Solomona with a hilarious comedy fighting style.
For number 6 it's gotta be Sir Clifford!

Bloody hell, of course he has - he set a club goals in a game record (14) v Gateshead in 2003! Apologies, I've been given duff information (you know who you are - hang your head in shame). Played far more than most of the above from 2000-2003, making 63 starts and 23 sub appearances (mainly in 2003). His best years with us were the 8 seasons before his brief move to Warington, but he still contributed more to the decade than most above.

| Cheers Iain,i thought he did but was unable to trust my fading memory. Steve Blakeley is one of my all time favourite Salford players and in 35 years or so of watching us thats a lot.

| Dunnaman and clinch, both oozed class, both tactically immence, both carried the salford team they played in to the next level from where it started, they were a honour to watch and delt with the pressure of it superbly.
Our fall from grace when neather were at the club shows their worth, one day hopefully soon we will get a replacement to take us back to that level because that is ALL that is missing

| Clinch and Dunnemann would be my choices - though I'd like to mention Cliff Beverley too who was a class act.
I think that in the future Ratchford can be even better than the two I've selected but I've based it on what they actually did. Here's hoping that Ratchford is a star in the team for the next decade - and Myler could have been with him if he'd stayed.

| You can't look past Dunnerman and Clinch for me, both had class and brilliant rugby brains.
Think as has been pointed out that Ratchford will go on to become one of the best half backs we've ever seen at the Willows. I just pray we can keep hold for some considerable time to come.

| Don't think I've ever seen as many people agreeing on a thread on here before?!
Like almost everyone else I'd go with Clinch and Dunnemann, with Beverley on the bench perhaps, but sincerely hope that Ratchford will go on to be a better player for the Reds than any of those three.
IMHO our 'fall from grace' since the playoff appearance at Bradford has been largely due to a real quality half-back.

| This has been the toughest of them all so far, I've been looking through my stats over the past week or so on all the positions but this one has got me quizzed!
Blakeley was great for his first few years in the 90's...but for me fell like Bambi if his sidestep didn't work.
Goulding was great...but he got up to his antics.
Holroyd was great (especially knocking over that Drop Goal against Wigan)...but at times looked disinterested.
Clinch was great...but mainly in NL1
Beverley was great...but again mainly in NL1 and didn't really reach the heights in SL.
Dunemann was great...but only for one year and only managed to cross the whitewash once in 27 games.
Robinson was great (at times)...but then he lied to our faces one evening (and he had this brilliant skill of finding the opposition full back with every kick).
Myler was great...but once again mainly in the lower league (although the early part of last season he was by far our best player and then...I don't need to add anything.)
Ratchford...is great and hopefully like SRAO has predicted he will become one of our finest EVER and he's got potential...but hasn't played enough yet.
There is a different version for each player but in keeping with the S.T. these days I’ll stick with the negative
So in conclusion!
I haven't got the foggiest but I'll suggest all of the above...for now!
One thing that really stands out for me is that not many of them had a great tactical kicking games but I digress....again.

| Clinch and Dunnerman for me , they both got Salford somwhere we needed to be.
As for kicking games, the Willows has the strange effect of removing the kicking skills from the most talented of players who end up at Salford.

A kick is only as good as the chase but i do agree our kicking game does need a radical overall

| I was gutted when Dunemann left Leeds. A great player. I was also a big fan of Clinch but was he ever as good for you lot as he was for Fax?
