| Hey guys,
Need some advice on Salford Quays - I'm looking to relocate from Brighouse (by Huddersfield) towards Didsbury as the daily commute is knocking me for 6 in terms of petrol etc. So I've been looking at apartment type places on rightmove, within 3 to 5 miles of Didsbury and a lot of results keep popping up for apartment buildings in the Quays.
In terms of the area etc, how do you rate it? I don't want to offend anyone, but you often hear bad things about Salford so I'm looking for your opinions on the areas around the Quays (I've never been, the only part of Salford I've visited is your stadium).
Thanks guys

| There seems to be some decent apartments in and around the Quays available, one thing that you should be careful with is exactly where they are located as some that are advertised as being in the "Quays" are not actually.
I suggest that you take a look around the "Quays" and see what the area is like before you make up your mind.
There are areas in any town that are a little dodgy and the "Quays" part of Salford is adjacent to areas that some people may be put off by but a huge amount of investment has gone into that area over the last few years which must have improved it.
There are apartments currently being constructed adjacent to the new BBC Media City site which may well be included on the lists that you have see and many of these and others are handy for eating, drinking, the Lowry Theatre, the Imperial War Museum,Lowry Outlet Mall, and the transport links are ok, with best of all the Metro Link to the Willows.
Don't forget see before you buy.

| I'd agree with the above. The Quays is generally a nice place, but because it's known for being nice, places up to a mile away call themselves Salford Quays to try to get a slice of the action.
You can see plenty of pictures of the quays [url=http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=salford%20quays&w=allhere[/url

| Im looking at a similar move but was warned of the apts in the quay cos apparently they are not shifting if you wanted to sell.
Didsbury is nice but very dear. Chorlton seems quite nice and is cheaper

| Subject to the points made above I'd say go for it. It's really quiet at night but very easily accessible from Manchester city centre. If you buy you should have see the value go up in a few years once Media City is up and running.
Don't expect an easy commute on public transport to Didsbury though. You will still need to drive.

| The price of decent property in the Quays will only sky rocket as the London bods move north when the BBC shift starts to happen, my advice would be to get a decent length lease with a fixed rent to prevent them hyking it further down the line.

| Don't go near the Quays mate!
It's haunted by the ghost of Don Brennan and worse still Ivy Tilsley's spectre can still be heard sobbing near the Anchorage buildings.

Thanks for all the replies people.
I work at the Business Park (Towers), and can be seen wearing a Bulls shirt on various days of the week - people just tend to look at me as if I'm weird when wearing it though

| Have you considered Stockport? - Heaton Mersey, for instance, is next door to Didsbury.
Plenty decent (cask) beer too, if you know where to look....

Heaton Misery is a car park of massive proportions, work just around the corner and my drivers detest even going near the place and Stockport in general is an odd place.

| Rent, don't buy. The house price crash continues steadily on flats/apartments.

Depends entirely at what point you think prices have bottomed and that mortgage payments become more attractive than rental payments - certainly not as clear cut a decisoin as you imply!

The Economist recently estimated houses are overvalued by 18%, if the OP rents he'll also have more money to spend around Salford.

An excellent point. If he nips across to the Lowry Outlet mall and buys a Burger King and a cinema ticket he can double their annual turnover.
