| I am still wondering, even now. Do the refs not bother with 10 metre rule any more at the play the ball any more. Its a disgrace.

| I thought the ref rarely went back 10 metres last night and coupled with an enthusiastic Castleford defence we were often getting tackled before moving anywhere near 5 metres forward - not really much you can do about it, just thought that he could have taken the defensive lines a bit further back at times which would have given the forwards a bit more to work with.
One thing I picked up on was Ryan Hudson constantly grabbing and pushing our players at the play the ball just as the tackle had been completed which surely should have been penalised?

I also noticed this with Ryan Hudson last night.
The Ref let him get away with it and in my opinion one of our forwards should have taken him to task during the game.
As for the Ref last night I have no comment to make about him other than he is not up to Super League standards yet.

| Refereeing anomolies aside we contributed a lot to our own downfall last night. As stated above the 10 was very skinny, we took the ball standing still so often last night but did not as suggested create a bigger ten ourselves. We also dropped the ball coming away from our own line more than they did. We had more than enough ball and territory in the second half to have won the game but our execution was very shoddy. I know refs and touch judges dont always help but we have to learn to adapt. That is what this season is all about. reacquainting ourselves with the nuances and tactics of super league, finding out which players can or cant or wont help us go forward next season. As for playing personel Castleford had a form stand off playing at stand off we had a form stand off playing at centre. I am prepared to write off some of this seasons harder to understand moments IF we learn from them and look to put them right next year.
Horrible night all round last night

| Apart from the numerous times Cas were offside the one thing which foxed me completely was when the ball got kicked out of touch late in the second half by what looked like a cas player and ended in cas getting the scrum. Did anyone see that any different to me and the rest of the shed who were going berserk over it.

Did the Salford player drop the ball before he kicked it forward ?
If he did then the Touch Judge got it right.
Hopefully someone who was a bit closer than me can confirm this one way or the other.

| As far as I could see I think it was Wilshere who put a kick through behind the defence for McGilvray only for a Castleford player to blast the ball into touch which should have been our head and feed. The fans knew it and the players knew it as they were protesting the decision also. The ref obviously didn't see as he had to ask the clueless touch judge who still thought that we had put the ball out.

Thats how I saw it The way the ball was kicked out had to be a purposeful kick by a Cas player. Oh well

| It was never in a million years a Cas scrum. Huge cock up from the officials on that one.
We'd probably still have dropped the ball from the resulting scrum, though.

If that is the case then I would expect the Salford officials to ask Stuart Cummings to take a look at the VT and if that proves is was a bad call by the Ref then I would expect last nights Ref to be stood down next week.
WILL THIS HAPPEN....I DOUBT IT.

Smith was checking that he still had ten fingers and trying to come who with excuses for dropping the ball
As for your last statement shows you have jumped on the opinion bandwagon and don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

I listen to the game on radio whilst at the game & Jack & Trevor both thought it should have been a Salford ball, they remarked something like both officials must have blinked at the same time & missed it

Yeah and we were fed up of not getting them for exactly the same offences.
our players were getting frustrated about being held down all the time thats why ryan hudson was trying to get them out of way you didnt see us asking for salford players to be sent to sin bin.
Prime example was when mike wainwright had got up to play ball stood on his feet was pushed back to ground by salford player no penalty
10-5 penalty count was a joke both teams were doing exactly same as kevin sinfield said when leeds penalised all time we doing same as every1 else but not getting away with it.
I am not saying we didnt deserve some of them he even missed a flop by brett ferres which would have given you a penalty but no player should be asking offical to send opponent to sin bin.

| Salford couldn’t make any meters from the play of the ball as Cas were constantly offside which means Cas had territorial advantage for most of the game. Cas players kept pushing Salford players over after tackles had been made meaning they were out of the game and extra meters could be made by Cas. As a newly promoted team it was only a mater of time before this started to reap rewards for Cas.
It only happened because the ref was so poor and Cas took full advantage (fair enough). As a paying spectator though I feel cheated that a game has been heavily influenced by the ref and not a superior team or moment of magic.
I don’t mind mistakes being made by the ref as we all make them, but incompetence is not excusable and ruined what could have been a close exciting game.

On the night Castleford deserved to win, having said that Hewer had in my opinion a very poor game, and the two linesmen were even worse.
Smith was only stating what should have been obvious to the referee and that is persistent holding down is usually a yellow card offence and this is what Cas were doing all night.
Towards the end Hewer made the penalty count look better for Salford by using the old ploy of evening things up a bit.
The linesmen/touchjudge's missed many items such as Cas getting head and feed after booting the ball dead amongst other things.
They also missed a blatant obstruction on Sidlow when he was following up a kick through in their dead ball area.

| FWIW, my thought's on Friday's match.
1) The better team won. Cas made the most of few chances created by either team and we didn't.
2) Hewer & TJ's were dreadful. Far too many offsides & instances of layng on at the PTB. At least 2 of the penalties (holding down when we made a clean break & flop by Cas player (Chase?) which looked like it involved the forearm should have resulted in yellow cards but Hewer bottled it.
3) Didn't think our pack did enough to get us into the field postion where we could hurt Cas. This made our HB's ineffective as without the forward momentum we struggled to create many decent try scoring opportunities (no sherlock!)
4) The abuse Myler got was a disgrace. I had a pop at one of our fans who singled him out. Like I said earlier we had no go forward so Myler & Smith both failed to get into the game. To hurl abuse at Myler (as dozens of fans decided to do) was bang out of order. I hate the whole Myler saga as much as the next fan but some of the stuff on Friday was uncalled for.
5) Stef needs to go back to 6/7 and either Myler or Smith dropped. If Mcrae decides Myler's head is not on it then drop him and play Smith. If not, get Smith on the bench, bring Walton in to the Centre and play Stef & Myler at HB.
6) As mentoned on here the "kick-out" that never was baffled me. If the player purposely kicked the ball out on the full in his own 20m area does that not result in a penalty? Forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought that was the ruling.
All in all, not the greatest game against a well drilled Cas outfit. With a couple of minor tweaks we could have won a game that we really didn't play well in. Hopefully, back to back defeats will galvanise the team to go to the HJ and turn Wire over. After all, we play better against the "MASSIVE" clubs don't we!
