Anyone know anything more about this sad day? Think it's to do with the Salford v Wigan Challenge Cup semi-final played at Rochdale. Presumably there must have been loads of spectators sat on the roof that had just collapsed.
my grandad who passed away last year was at this game with his mum who was pregnant, dad, aunty and uncle his story was that youths were sitting and sliding down the roof, his dad had sat him on the wall to watch the game with the family standing under the stand he heard one almight crash turned round and could just see mayhem. he thought his parents were hurt but when he looked closer all he could see out of a gap in the stand was his mums head! his dad got away bumps and bruises but his uncle and aunty were quite seriously injured "uncle mick" broke his back. and aunty annie had broken bones. they recieved compensation for their injuries which grandad fondly remembered because they bought him a cricket set!
Thats the reason i support this club it goes back generations
"A full house capacity of 40000 were in attendance with thousands more outside. A stand collapsed under the weight of people on it. Sadly, seven people were seriously injured, one of them fatally and the game was held up for some time. "
Salford won 11 - 2 this made us the FIRST team to appear two years on the trot at Wembley
