| Been watching salford for over 10 years now and was thinking we have had many different coaches in the last 10 years but the style in which we play has never really changed maybe the odd little thing changed i.e fitz running on the ball close to the line when we had Karl in charge but other than that we have always played down the middle , one man rugby that sort of thing why has it never really changed with so many coaches.

Tried to start a thread partly based on this but it was of a rant over Friday nights result, and nobody responded.
Anyway if I cast my mind back to the Peter Edwards era. I seem to recall the ball moving further away from the playball than it does right now, and has done for the last ten years.
I was also watching the famous Salford/Wigan game on You-Tube the other day and although it wasn't the best quality picture in the world we seemed to have a scrum half running with the ball, using dummy runners amd passing the ball to players running from deep. I was actually impressed by Scott Naylor's ability to run from deep.
All a different era I know, but the basics remain the same. Run from deep, use the decoy runners and don't drop the sodding ball. I think alot of it was down to the skill of Mark Lee and his ability to read the game.
It's not players understanding of the game that's in question, it's their ability to do it super league level. The halfbacks and the rest of the team alike need to read the game quicker.
However, I can't recall if Mark Lee has been in the coaching setup before, but Shaun McRae clearly needs a number 2, and he could play the game well and intelligently.

| The most entertaining style of RL played here since the glory days was under Andy Gregory, maybe Mcrae should watch a few videos, might teach him a thing or too.

| What struck me most about Quinns on Friday was the way that they deployed Dorn, we all know he has blistering pace and they seemed to chip the ball for him to chase down with monotenous regularity, and with Fitzy still thinking that a rugby ball is perfectly round and therefore will bounce predictably it was a brilliant ploy by them.
Why did we never use him in this way I wonder???.

| i think when we signed him we thought right we will play him in this position and he will play great but it didnt work and we had no one else to lead us after dunaman left we justed used him in the wrong way which damaged his confidence wheres as other teams that have had him know how best to use him.

| A style of play comes with confidence, winning and having quality players performing to their best strenghts. In fairness we have lacked quality, pace and organisation (apart from the organisation from Dunnaman in 2006) over the past 10 years.
It's like asking Hull City to play an attacking style of football like Man United, it just isn't going to happen because their players don't have the quality to do the things the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, etc can do.

| When you look at the brand of Rugby we played under Kevin Tamati, it was a very skillful, fast, and exciting way of playing. I was watching the review of the season Tape (VHS, some of you younger guys wont know what this is ) the other day and I have to say that the likes of Gibbo, Shakers, Kerry and Tex etc make for some surprisingly modern looking rugby. It really highlighted to me how far backwards we, as a club, have gone.
Sad. But true.

| one man rugby up the middle, flat line with no second line of attack at pace.
Why is it when someone like Cashmere comes to Salford, one of the highest metre gainers in NRL last season playing for the bottom club, we then turn them into a flat running clueless player?

True enough but we do have our own little gem in Myler, I would personally think maybe bringing Cashemere on after 15 for the last 25 would be the ideal situation, that way he is potentially running at 2nd string props and tired defences.
