Where is that picture/map from?
If it's from Peel (directly or indirectly) then it at least reaffirms their intention to ensure our ground is built.

The Crains article is pretty much word for word from the website I linked to above, so I'd imagine it's Peel's image.

| Quote ="James Chapelard"A long-awaited scheme to ease the notorious bottleneck at Barton Bridge on the M60 may soon get the go ahead from planners.
In recent weeks the Highways Agency took the decision to back the scheme and the application will now be considered by Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council... A decision is expected on February 12.
The scheme involves the building and widening of new roads to link a string of Peel properties: the Trafford Centre, the proposed Salford City Reds stadium adjacent to Barton Bridge.
The scheme is also designed to carry a proposed extension to the proposed Metrolink network from Trafford Park over the canal into Salford, which would be funded by Peel.'"

| The article in an above post says the application will be considered by Trafford Met Borough Council on February 12th. From the drawings above the proposed new road appears to be in both Trafford and Salford.
Will Peel need the OK from Salford City council as well or was the new roads in Salford part of the stadium application? Also Considering the ship canal is the border between Salford and Trafford, does anyone know which council the new bridge would need planning permission from?

Not sure what the situation is regarding Salford Council.

| Fantastic news.......I think a lot depended on this being approved by the council. The wheels are back in motion!

I don't think the link road is an issue as far as accessing the stadium is concerned as that could be done from the A57. Peel is obviously looking at the bigger picture in terms of Port Salford the airport and the new retail on the stadium site.
The new retail would obviously be more valuable if it had a direct link from the M60, this would offset the build cost of the stadium and make it more financially viable. To avoid anyone getting carried away by this news it's important to realise that this is only half the planning consent needed for the proposed new roads. It's all down to Salford City council now to rubber stamp the planning application on the new roads north of the ship canal. Although considering the whole scheme has now been given the OK by the Highways Agency after 5 years, what's the odds that some local councillors will try and make names for themselves by objecting or holding things up even further?

That land would be far too valuable not to develop if it had a direct link from the M60!

I don't think any land has particularly high value for retail at the moment, especuially not the bulky/non food sort of stuff that was proposed.

The point I'm making is that the land is much more valuable to Peel if they have a high visability site that is accessible directly from the M60 and potentially the M62, rather than just the A57.
Regardless of commercial property conditions at present, I'm sure Peel would take a longer term view in relation to the value of the land once or if they got a full planning consent for WGIS.

Either way - as far as I know the retail is not happening.

The retail won't be happening in the immediate future, but the planning consent for the roads will increase the future value of the land, which will be a factor in Peel being able to deliver a stadium for Salford.
