I still stick by what I said when you announced your signings though, 8th is your target and if you get there it's been a really good season. Whatever happens, hopefully Koukash's enthusiasm doesn't waver because if he sticks it out and continues building I think you could be really competetive in another couple of years, and it's always nice to see another club battling for silverware.

If so, I agree. For me, our problem next season won't be strength in depth or ageing players, as some seem to think, it'll be getting the whole to be greater than the sum of the individual parts.

There's a lot of people predicting Salford to finish outside the eight. If these people don't want to take us seriously I'm not in the least bit bothered. Personally I much prefer it this way because it takes some pressure off.

It makes laugh how people keep saying our signings aren't that great. There are only Leeds and Huddersfield with the same level of quality in the half backs, and I'd like to know who all these amazing superstar second rowers are that people on these forums seem to think are better than Hock and Hansen?

I don't really know where Salford will end up this season but I'm confident of two things...
1) it will be entertaining to watch
2) if they don't do it this time it won't be long before they do.

The fact we have people coming on here with lets be honest a slight whiff of jealousy is just brilliant. For years we've been little old Salford - a lot of peoples 2nd team, the also ran's if you will. Never in our clubs history have we been given such an opportunity like we have so it makes me smile even more when I see cheese wits like this chap coming on here dogging our chances. Must see us as a rival because I don't remember him saying the same things this time last year.

I understand that it is a 'slow news day', but, you really should get over this "little old Salford" routine it's a bit old hat.

The OP is obviously a bit 'challenged' but from what I've read on here and on VT, most posters seem to be giving Salford a fair assessment. Some have you in or around 6th-8th others as high as 4th-6th, much in line with what's been posted by your own fans.

I do agree with you on this one. The 'jealous' posts don't sit with me. It's a cringe-worthy statement at best, especially ironic to come from fans of a Club that finished where we did last year. To add insult to injury, to say anyone is jealous of a side that has not even played a competitive game together yet is just asking to be trolled at a later date. I think most people are giving us pretty fair positions too.

As for Wednesday, I personally wont read anything into it. We could run in a hat full of tries or concede a cricket score. As long as there's no injuries it better prepares the squad for the first real important game.

Agreed, although apart from heralding the new season this particular 'friendly' does have some interesting aspects to it as there's a lot of players on show with plenty to prove.

Sorry Rico you got me wrong. I am not for one minute saying we are little old Salford, this is merely a perception from other fans, I think we will do alright this season like u. Butcher - I think there is a little jealousy when a team goes out and recruits heavily - did we not feel a little of the same when Warrington and other clubs invested in the past? You speak to any fan from a club struggling financially and try telling me they don't look a little enviously at our set up - I know I did the same only 12 months ago.

I think tomorrow brings the chance of bragging rights and very little else. Will be a good barometer to play against a big pack to see how we go, still think we're a bit light in the backs though and it's teams like Wire who will expose this.

Are the club going to do the match day coverage thing again? In hospital and it would hekp pass the time if they were.

I can see where Redrum is coming from Butcher. Yes I appreciate your point about where we finished 2013 and that we haven’t played a game and won anything yet. However, tell me any supporter who wouldn’t want to see an investment on this scale in their team and a wealthy new owner making some pretty bold promises about the future?

Personally, no. But each to their own I suppose.

I just feel it's a little early to say things like envy or jealousy, regardless of how much has been invested. It's really exciting as a Salford fan but until, maybe, half way through this coming season we have no real idea where we are heading yet. All the investment could come to nothing and we may not gel and finish fighting for our lives. People are not going to be envious of that. Equally we could end up the opposite.

I only see people being envious if we achieve, as it's easy to put a great team together on paper, it's another thing for that team to succeed. That's just me though. I can't say I've ever felt envious of other sides. Envious of their ability to succeed maybe but that's it.

Butcher I don't think envy or jealousy is solely related to achievement. It can also be related to other things like money, possessions and other material things.

Go back to 1970's when we had an under achieving team of superstars, many resented us then simply because of the big cheque book.

I don't think anyone resents us based on the fact we have a somewhat secure future and a wealthy backer. Most people, including the ones who take a swipe at Marwan think it's great for the game. Some may wish something similar would happen for their sides but that's not envy, just wishful thinking. I just think some people jump on the 'envy' or 'jealous' bus when they find something disagreeable as I have yet to see anyone say they are jealous or envious of us yet.
