| How are you when it comes to having room for a quota player? Stosic is a very good prop who would improve just about any super league teams front row.

Sorry - What tax bill? - if a company is making a loss then there is no corporation tax to pay
There may be VAT to pay if the merchandise sales outweigh the purchases costs, but in that case the cash will have come in with the sales revenue
There will be Income Tax & NI from the wages, but that (apart from the employer's NI contribution) will have been deducted from the wage itself
So I ask again - What tax bill?
It may of course have been used to reduce the overdraft and any relience upon the robber baron banks.

Of the 6 listed, how many are actually genuine super league standard at prop? I'd say 1 having not seen Boyle play very often.

At the Forever Reds meeting Howard Clague when asked where had the Myler
money gone to, replied "It has paid the tax man".
It could be Income Tax, VAT, NI etc.
Presumably if that money had not been used then the directors would have had to dip into their pockets once again.

mmm - like I said - it's actually been used to reduce the overdraft then - if the Myler money hadn't come in then income tax, Vat, NI etc would still have had to be paid (and income tax and employees NI is witheld from their wages anyway, VAT is just the difference on oupt tax and input tax) - so what the club are telling us is that the Myler money has been used for day to day costs rather than a step change in squad improvement. Those who know me will know that I'm not one to criticise the club or the directors and I have the greatest admiration for the financial support they've put in over the years (without that there would be no SCR) - but this strikes me as a bit of an opportunity lost.

Oh I know we're not. But, half-backs, hookers, 2nd rowers and backs all have 1 thing in common. They are all surplus to requirements without quality forwards preventing the opposition from creating momentum whilst creating momentum for their own blokes to work on the back of. I just feel that if we are going to bring a bloke over from Aus, which is never a cheap option, we should be bringing a prop over.
10 years ago Bradford were dominant in super league on the basis their team was bigger and stronger than everybody else's. Year on year, other teams have followed suit to the point where props in 2009 were far fitter, faster and stronger than ever before. It will be the same in 2010. Without following this trend, bigger teams will run over the top of you up the middle and no matter who you have in the backs, (Apart from maybe Greg Inglis), you'll get no joy as they'll never get quality ball on the back of momentum created by dominant props. Hopefully I'm underestimating our props but from what I've seen in the last couple of years, they're a little of the pace.

A company may deduct Tax and Ni from your wages but that does not mean that they have paid them to the taxman straight away, some pay monthly some 3 monthly and some 6 monthly. Most peoples wages are paid straight into a bank account so there is no actual cash involved just a number, at this point your deductions are just a number until the bill is settled, so no cash has been "deducted" a number of sports clubs delay paying taxes until other revenues come in. The most famous being Leeds United and we know what happened to them. There is also a Tory policy to encourage and support new businesses and ones in trouble by allowing a tax holiday where the company will still deduct the Tax from your wage but can reinvest in the company, which means you would be a shareholder, I don't think the tories have realised this yet, of your company. So Salford settled the tax bill early and keep overdraft costs down through the months of low income.
Lesson plan "your wage packet and who takes what?"

| I don't quite follow how settling any tax bill early would keep overdraft costs low.
The payment of wages and salaries is not just a number. It is a transaction that has gone through the bank account to settle the liability of wages and salaries. As such it reduces the bank balance. Depending what state your balance is already in this could leave you still with a surplus, take you overdrawn or increase your overdraft.
Companies that are struggling often use the money they have collected in VAT or PAYE & NI to meet their cashflow needs. This is usually only sustainable for a limited time before HMRC decide enough is enough.

Maybe they've made all the signings they're going to make, but haven't announced them all yet. I'm sure someone somewhere said that the Broughton signing can't be announced until January for some reason, while we all know that the signings of Billy Slater and Johnathan Thurston are nailed on but just haven't been made public yet.
