| Quote ="Walshovski"Cracking overreaction even by the standards of this forum. Hundreds of people losing their jobs to fund this loan and food being taken from the mouths of children? Have you been teleported in from Dickensian times?
This does not take away from the shameful embarrassment of the whole episode. I'm with SaleSlim though. Of course I'd still rather have a club to support and to represent Salford in a year's time and call me optimistic I don't think it will result in the reopening of the workhouse. Good to see the council showing some foresight and defending it's only professional sports club.'"
Ok I'll admit it's a slight exaggeration. However when the new cuts are announced and the council decide that they need to cut hundreds of jobs ( lets say 500 if Manchesters 900 is anything to go off) everyone of those 500 will look to our club and see that as one of the main factors in depriving them of a wage. Lets face it 750,000 is some 25 jobs based of a 30,000 a year wage. Each one of those will have family and friends who probably aren't supporters of the club. This in turn will breed resentment and negative exposure, which in turn will stop people from coming and supporting us.
There are much worthier causes than Salford City Reds thats for sure.
Lets face it a large number of people already believe that SJW has fleeced the club for years and should be pumping much more than he has done to make the team worth going to watch. This will just fortify their argument.

I didn't notice too much anguish when plans were put into operation for the Olympic Games.

Sorry but that will be fact we can't pay what we owe now. So why should council tax payers who might not support the club want to give are club any more money just to be thrown away by are own miss management'"
It would be beneficial to Salford RLFc and the real fans if you stopped referring to the club as us, you and your ilk tirelessly keep saying you will not attend this season (which I think might add to the attendance) so saying US doesn't mean squat to anyone. You've given up on the club so giving up on here would be a blessed relief to us all.

| I am entitled to my opinions give me one reason what salford city reds deserves a bail out of taxpayers that don't support salford at most we only have 2,000 honest supporters. I have put money into this club like everyone else and everyone is struggling. I pay my council tax every year we have already lost council tax money already. The club treats its supporter crap and I am fed up of it. It is my choice not to waste my money on the worst run club in super league. But I am right when people don't want to see taxpayers see there money wasted on a black hole of losing money. If anyone was interested in saving us they would have bought club buy now. That shows how poorly are club is run. Also all the promises made by the club as been rubbish plus it aint even are stadium another let down off club. Tell me one good thing about giving us a loan knowing no one wants the club and give on good selling point. We have not won out for years we hardly have support why would a owner buy I thought a few times over years of giving money to help looks like I made the right call not to. Sorry the truth hurts

Take voluntary demotion and come and play in a league thats exciting and anybody can win!
Either way you are on a hiding to nothing like everybody else.

| Come on guys. What investor is going to want to come in and repay the council loans as well as finance the club. For the good of the club refuse the loans and apply to enter the championship. There is still a winding up hearing due early January. Who's paying that?

I wasn't passing comment on the use of council taxpayers money by Salford Council as I do not know enough about the speculation as reported in the press or about details of the alleged loan to SCR/Stadium.
I just wished to point out my thought that the Tory councillor was being disingenuous when the Tory leader
had made comments about sport [url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/aug/12/observer-editorial-encourage-school-sport#start-of-commentsHere[/url
As for an alleged waste of council tax there are many examples :- [url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/8998742/Council-taxpayers-in-England-losing-out-on-2.6billion-in-services-because-of-Scottish-funding-formula.html#Here[/url
[url=http://fullfact.org/factchecks/pickles_billion_lost_fraud_and_error_council_tax_benefit_system-27922Here[/url
Recently there has been reports about the wasted money on papers/magazines etc.produced for every household and the collection of refuse/waste.
Even the neighbouring council taxpayers have complained over a waste of money for one night and not a nuber of games over coming years [url=http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1589873_manchester-council-spent-425k-on-alicia-keys-cathedral-concertHere[/url
The key word is LOAN - The intention,it seems,is to repay the loan

| If investors are not interested now they won't be in a years time with even more debt to repay. Time for the fans to demand the clubs resignation from sl and entry into the championship to rebuild. 12 months of beatings will reduce the fan base even more and the risk is no club at all.

No ST's available for sale up to now so it would be the best time to do this. Small matter of either finding a replacement and/or rejigging the fixtures lists for both divisions but it is do-able IF done now. This could be the sensible thing to do.

A Castleford fan, panicking.Who'd have thought ? Richard Wright not right, then,in what he said ?
Could be worse, the rugby league club who has the reputed best coach in the game has an owner,Nathan Tinkler in a spot of financial bother.
I may have been otherwise engaged but I cannot recall too much weeping and wailing when Widnes required the local council to construct their stadium.
Even the club with a well-respected sugar-daddy seem to accept help from the local council [url=http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2012/09/20/kirklees-council-funded-john-smith-s-stadium-750-000-pitch-86081-31870768/Story[/url
I am sure you will agree with me,Tigerade, that it was a pleasant surprise to see Wakefield Trinity Wildcats overcome the hurdle placed in fron of them by Leeds council and get the go-ahead for a new stadium. You do don't you ?

It would make the club irresistible to have no gauranteed super league franchise and gates way below what were currently getting.

Nice to see such wonderful unbiased reporting, does make you wonder what the club has done over the years to merit the vitriol that the Star dishes out. Does make me even more than before see that unless I've forgotten to buy the Andrex the Salford Star is a pointless publication.

Quite an interesting blog - some of the earlier posts show the direction Peel are taking - basically they want to destroy the green belt land to the north and west of Barton airport - I wonder what the quid-pro-quo is for them offering to match whatever the council put up.
I confess to divided loyalties here - I want SCR and the airport to survive - I wonder if they both will?

Hasn't Barton got some form of listed status with it being the first passenger terminal? You'd also think that maybe Peel would see Barton right on the doorstep of the golf course they are looking to build and the port as a good thing for executive helicopter access.

| That's the point - the heliport is there now! It needs far less land than runways for fixed wing - and yes the Control Tower is a listed building - the longest continually operating tower in the world I believe - but as long as they don't knock it down it doesn't have to stay working as a control tower!

Troll or realist, you decide. You are not attractive in SL either, what gives you the right to a gauranteed franchise. What is 750k going to get you....except for more debt to the council which an investor will need to eventually pay back. Good luck finding someone willing to pee £2 million down the drain before they have even spent any on the club. Why has it taken since June/July to get this far. You have a winding up hearing in 4 weeks too. Even now as it has been week in week out since then is words. The directors request your plight isn't discussed on public boards by the fans as it may harm the clubs ability to attract an investor. They should be blaming themselves, some of you can see it, some unfortunately can't.
You cannot afford to stay in SL if the figures bandied about are true. Your current squad has all the makings of 14th place, the fans will dwindle and thus so will the money. No kits out, ST or ground entry details for next season are non existent.
I fear that if you stay in SL you will have no club at all by 2014 and I can see the club folding and re-entering in Championship 1.
You stated an investor would be less interested if you were in the Championships....I think Widnes proved it is not impossible to attract a 'money man'

Great post, a definate realist in my view.
The problem with most supporters Demon is they think the sun shines out of Mr Salford's backside, even though we're on the brink of going under. We've been a joke through the visions of this same person for far to long, the realist's saw this coming years ago before the move. We got laughed at, who's laughing now, not Mr Salford with his cap in hand AGAIN.....
No investor is going to pay Wilko's loans etc.... It's best for Salford Rugby League club to sever all ties with Mr Salford to go into NL1 with a new regime in charge there's no room for sentiment when the club is on it's ass.

| Just thinking but the council investing money from it's coffers into the club could be interpreted as securing part of the city of Salfords future heritage. The city as a whole has a steadily growing profile nation and world wide and the possibility of a thriving RL team would add to that.

Why, oh why does this topic polarise like this every bloody time?
PYB - very few supporters see sun shining from the orifice you describe - the bulk of us see mistakes and poor decisions undoubtedly and that things could have been done better. BUT we also see that without the level of support then this crisis would have come years ago.
I suspect you are absolutely right, no investor is going to come in and pay off all that JW has poured into the club over the years, so for anything to go forward there has to be a restructuring - that is what we are all waiting for, at present the only game in town is the council stumping up council tax cash and Peel matching it - not a particularly edifying prospect, but just for once have a bit of good grace in looking at a man who has done a lot for SCR and just think that we are all human and fallible!

I except we are all human fallible etc but enough is enough. It's calamity after calamity with this administration, thirty painful years. The most gracious thing that can happen is for JW to walk away for the good of this club. He's awaiting investors to pay his debts . The club needs to start from scratch, we'd be more attractive to investors instead of staying in SL awaiting for an investor to come in and waste monies payng of Wilko's loans.
