| There has been a 'tweet' today about Halifax being top of the Championship - in semi-final of the NRC - and had made a 20k profit.
If Widnes were under-prepared for Super League I would think the same applies to 'Fax.
But this is rugby league...
It was on Gareth Walker's twitter.( twitter.com/garethwalker13 )

| Quote ="Michigan red"Another Walshovski reply based on dislike (do try to be subjective) but I digress.
Many companies play a game of chicken with their taxes by waiting till the very last minute to pay, I'm willing to bet it's not the first time it has happened at the club and unless the mysterious sugar daddy appears I doubt it will be the last and most certainly we wont be the only RL team to use this tactic.'"
There is waiting for the reminder letter to come in before paying and then there is waiting until hours before your company is liquidated to pay. The latter would suggest we are far from being in rude financial health.
I think you meant 'do try to be [uobjective[/u' when posting, but feel free to continue being subjective if you want.

Come on Salford kill the rummer's for once, it not fair on loyal fans who continually defend the clubs good name, we deserve better?

I never said or implied we were in rude financial health, but I doubt were on the brink of oblivion either. Think the important thing is it was paid and cleared.
I did indeed mean objective but the spell check changes what I know I mean to what it thinks I mean.
Regardless of our mutual dislike of each other do you honestly feel that the club will be cut from SL? I very much doubt it, if the club were in that serious trouble pretty sure after what happen in Wrecsam there will be much tighter controls in place, meaning they would step in before it got to that stage and try to assist as they did with Bradford and the purchase of the stadium.

This would be to cover said stadium rent/service charge and pay the full salary cap, but the land is a seperate deal at £1 per year peppercorn rent this was mentioned in the original stadium plans from about 10 years ago.

| Big Pev, i remember the story about the land ten years ago (ish). What I dont understand is why wilkys mentioned it cos surely it doesnt mean anything any more. We dont own the stadium, and so why would we rent the land it is built on?
Also, you seem to know more than most about the cost we are paying, is it less that our costs at the willows do you think? i.e. is it a good deal? and if Sale are paying more is that because they will have prime tenancy or is that again another rumour?

The land is all the land from the road to the canal and is quite a few acres so when stuff is built on it we can get some revenue from ground rent etc, I don't know how much the willows cost to run, rates, water rates but not rent. I believe the club have a very good deal and as for Sale that is just business, like lots of different businesses pay different rents in the same building for similar areas, prime tenancy a yawnian feature.

| Should Bradford go into liquidation is it the case that all the opposition sides that took points in their games against them lose those points ?
I seem to recall this happening in non-league soccer a couple of years ago.
If it remains at administration then only Bradford lose the points, obviously.
The RFL setting a precedent is a bit of a lottery if the cup-tied Thackeray for Hull FC is anything to go by.

| I've had a gander through the RFL's operational rules and can't find anything on insolvency, plenty of stuff on HMRC payments though.

| In the soccer it was Chester who were liquidated and had their results expunged.
Vaughan was the guy in charge - the same one who caused Widnes their financial problems.

Do you mean that all points Bradford have gained this year will be returned to the opposition??
I hope this isnt the case, as Bradford have beaten all the teams scrapping around us in the league and we would only stand to gain a point from it.

Nah.The 3 points we took from them will be lost -including the memorable try at their place - will be expunged
as though they didn't happen.
Play-off hopes well and truly gone, before we go to Hull,if Bradford liquidate.
Yours is a great idea though.

| looking at the VAT bill for the sale of the lease it appears the RFL paid Bradford £1.5m of which £250k was VAT so a handy £1.25m into the coffers, so where did this money go? Can the RFL afford £1.5m at this time?

Didn't the RFL buy Odsal off Bradford Council, not Bradford Bulls?

| My understanding from reading the mass of posts on the Bradford site, is that although the council own the stadium, Bradford had a long term lease to operate there and that was deemed to have a commercial value. It was that lease that was used as security for the bank for their operating overdraft and which they sold to the RFL without either side taking into account the consequences!!
I know we whinge on about the poor management at SCR but that bit of financial wizardry just takes the biscuit. Add to it that they've gone to their fans and got half a million quid from them which presumably is now down the pan it's a pretty sorry mess

| What one Bradford fan wrote in January when the lease was soldm thinking that 10k of tickets at average of £80 each bringing in £800k will pay the rent and full salary cap.
=#FF0000Steam Pigs says...
10:54am Wed 25 Jan 12
Way it was
Land Owned by Bradford Council
Lease Owned by Bulls (for a long time)
Rent paid by Bulls to Council – small amount
“Predators” circling the Bulls with a view to purchase them, merge with BCFC and move to VP thus freeing up VALUABLE real estate at Odsal - how much did M&S pay for golf club not 400 yards away..........
2 things for me in this deal –
1.) Who drafted the original lease? Mr Caisley per chance? Was there any trapdoors in the lease so that the council could sell Odsal if a certain amount was offered or similar clauses?
2.) The Bulls (read the majority shareholders) were considering one of these offers to buy the club and all the rumpus it involved just to realise their capital from the Bulls? Would make good business sense for a shareholder...
Hood by approaching the RFL has secured the lease at Odsal for rugby purposes – the RFL are alot more capable of resisting takeovers than the Bulls
I think this is a super bit of business by Hood (he is an accountant!) for the Bulls, Council (they have a governing body paying their rent, not a sports team which could disappear owing them...) and the RFL
I also don't believe we were in financial trouble and needed a loan - the season ticket sales were over 10k again and that money has been paid to the club and we are still spending the full cap - doesn't sound like a team in dire straights in terms of cash and cashflow......”
