| I think we need to hear what the club has to say on the subject first. Rumours in the game can spread very quickly and are often found to be exaggerated and inaccurate. I find it strange that there was no mention of it on these forums after they signed for us last year but now everyone can't wait to tell us. I guess the fact both players have missed the opening few games will only fuel these rumours at the moment. One troll mentioned something about Anderson's back problem yet I heard he's out at present with a calf problem!
I say lets wait and see before we start finger pointing, demanding sackings and causing more undue stress around the club. I heard Vinnie Anderson was signed by Salford on the recommendation of Adrian Morley and I can't imagine Mozza wanting to stitch up his home town club.

| Quote ="middleman"I seem to remember Wigan fans querying our signing of David Hodgson along the same lines.
I've been impressed with Wild so far. I believe Wild was a calculated risk re is injury history but a risk worth taking , so far it is paying dividends , as for Stats , they won't be a real indicator for a few more rounds 7-8.
[ I have only seen SW versus Crusaders where he was poor and less athletic than I have ever seen him. lets see how he goes over 2 or 3 years
as for Bailey & Vinnie Anderson, hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ,
[No hindsight required. Plenty of people knew that these guys were 'creeking' last year with the medical / conditioning expertise available at Wigan / Wolves.
but to remind everyone we are not a superstar team where everyone is queuing up to play for us. and recruitment was regarded as of a higher standard.'"
Take a 'risk' by all means. But it should be manageable risk.
It can be managed by:
- signing no more than a couple 'high risk' players re fitness / health
- Sign on a year + a year 2 option (subject to a certain amount of games being played in Y1 and loading the 2nd year on pay for play)
- Ensure there are high quality medicial checks ahead of signing + high quality medical / conditioning micro management through the season
The process at Salford seems to increase risk to a ridiculous level. Someone made these decisions and they are letting down the chairman , the fans and the club.

Didn't Steve Coppell leave Man City due to stress?
I think there's some reading between the lines going on with regard to the diagnosis. Certainly fits with how he appeared to be in the post match interviews after Saints and Wakefield

It's like the old saying..If you fall off your horse.. pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get back on the saddle and take the reins.
Even the most experienced riders can fall off!.

They most definitely can. The only thing with the horse analogy is that sometimes the rider is damaged from the fall and needs time out to recover.

Exactly that is what I meant by picking himself up and dusting himself down. The horse isn't going anywhere is it?

Where do any reports say the illness is stress? That's just pure conjecture, the fact is we just don't know (and have no right to know) what is on that sick note.

| He's old, overweight, out of shape, probably has a bad diet and in a stressful job. I'm surprised he's not had a heart attack by now. It's no wonder he's off on a sickie

| If he's not fit for the next month he should be relieved of his duties full stop. Don't want it derailing the season. As someone mentioned earlier never heard of anything similar in sport.

| Do any fans feel a little guilty or harsh due to some of the chants directed at SM during the opening of the season, if it is a stress related illness?
The big guy should resign and put his family first in my opinion. Enjoying life alive is better then driving yourself into a premature grave.

Getting booed by 500 people in The Shed in a sport that has minimal coverage in the press and living in an area where no one will recognise him. It's hardly Graham Taylor's reign as England manager is it?

| The tone of some messages on this link is pathetic.
If the guy is ill let him recover with the fans blessing and support.
Its only a bloody game, for heavens sake.

Wasn't it a bit more then getting booed? Quite personal songs about him if I remember rightly.
