I do feel phil is a good coach and what he did last season while we were in a serious tailspin after mcraes departure was nothing short of a miricle from wooden spoon to whisper it finishing in the 8, if he performs simular miracles this season and gets us up bradfords backside and fighting for 8th then i'll personally start a petition to get a street named after him. how he didnt win club man of the year last season is beyond me, does he need to feed and nurse children back to health as well as turn our club around....
what concerns me is...
We need strong leadership from our football department (mr simms) and to give him a 1 year contract is in my eyes nothing short of a disgrace, yes they will point to the fact we dont want to be stuck with him like mcrae but it just stinks to high heaven that in 12 months time if Vievers hasnt pulled another rabbit of his magic hat and got us competing and higher up the table he will be binned and another "victim"/ coach will be employed.
what was needed from our football department (mr simms) was a two year contact one year for SS to train Vievers up in the areas as a coach he is unfamilar with (dealing with the media ect) the second year SS then reverts to "player and rugby welfare officer " organising offield duties for players and coaching staff BUT is below Phil when it comes to decitions on how the rugby club / playing side is run that means If phil cocks it up he gets binned and replaced with a more experienced coach

Yeah thats why I also pointed out the wins he got whilst in charge, it could go either way but imho Salford will still be the same shower.

| OK.
Now that Matt the prat has gone and Phil Veivers is the new Head Coach, that puts an end to all the speculation over the last few weeks.
He will be the Coach for the 2012 season at least and ,hopefully, earn the right to a further contract.
If he does that then we will have done well as a team so it would be good news all round.
As I say the speculation is over, nothing to be done apart from putting all our faith behind him and the team.
I have no idea whether he's a yes man or not,nor do most of the experts on here, but I really couldn't care less whether he is or not, provided we have the right results

Veivers appointment in some circumstances would be sound , but feels like another lost opportunity, I will support him now he's in charge, but this decision isn't going to move season passes or garner any credibility with the RL press.

| I just can't believe the sheer rudeness of some on this site - "Vievers is a yes man" say quite a few - Solly, GT et al (who's Al I hear you ask....) - how the f*** do you justify that kind of insult?
I wonder how many would stand eye to eye and say that to his face?
Phil Vievers held the whole thing together after the McCrae fiasco, and IMHO it was a crying shame he wasn't given the post then - He gets my 100% support and good wishes for the success that we all long for.

| Ive got nothing against the guy but the club going out and signing Parish tells me that the powers that be thought he wasnt good enough,so what as changed now,as he in the last 6months suddenly become Salfords saviour,i somehow doubt it,good luck to him,hes going to need it.

If I had a job that I wanted and did everything my bosses told me even if I didn't like some of what they told me but I wanted to stay put I'd be a 'yes man' its not an insult at all I'd say it to his face no problem, I back PV 100% Parish seen the faults within the club and wanted to do summat about it, unfortunately his hands were tied.

| Can someone explain why he is a yes man? Is it because he hasn't walked out and left us in the lurch? I really don't get that comment at all. I for one am very pleased it's Veivers, I think it's a great appointment and well deserved. Let's get behind him & the players and, for once, try and bring some positivity to our great club! Salford Reds Are Rising!!

| 'the board didn't think he was the right man for the job' is this the same board that everyone has been slagging of for appointing Simms and tarry who they viewed as the right men for the job? I know were all a bit gutted parish bailed but the way I look at it is that vievers was the right man and we just got someone in for 6 months to help set up a good infrastructure with a new attacking assistant a very impressive conditioner and who knows what else!( probably what a director of football should do) so were in a better position than last year with a hungry ambitious coach who units the playing squad and will have to work hard to extend his contract. Stay positive you load act like we lost our license and are doomed in nl1 not moving into a new stadium with a much younger, hungry squad with some potentially very exciting new imports. Keep the faith!

oh and by the way can you elaborate on the so called efforts made by the board. Is this the same board whom market the club immensly.Who put loads of effort in keeping us fans in the dark about everything. The same board who put effort in letting us fans have a say in the barton project.Great effort in keeping the sale RU stadium partnership a secret.Took great effort confusing supporters about season ticket deals.
and yes I love salford and want this barton project to flourish but lets be realistic who is enthralled with this appointment apart from the players.? All it proves is the captain sinking this ship hasnt any fight in him and lacks ambition BIGTIME.

OK point taken , taking a positive view now Matt's Left , this is probably the best coaching set up we've had since Harrison- Lowes- McGuinness, I suppose.
[uSean Long :-Assistant Coach –[/u
• New Attacking options – Breaking down defences .
• Kicking with the Halves and Hookers should improve
• Huge wealth of experience ( Poacher turned gamekeeper )
[uHead Conditioner :- Mark Barry[/u
Previous appointments – London Wasps RUFC ,
He call his job ‘ Strength & Conditioning coach’
• He was a Senior Strength & Conditioning coach at London Wasps , under Shaun Edwards
• Pinpointing emphasis on speed , power & endurance in the squad pre season
• Played Union for London Irish , League with London Broncos in squad with Shaun Edwards
• Progressive improvements planned , realistic small gains , team ethic , ‘focus on traing techniques & diet ‘
• Remit to work on the whole squad not just the senior players .
[uHead Coach :- Phil Veivers [/u
last appointments :- Salford Assistant Coach ! ,
• Almost 13 years experience in assistant coaching roles with other SL sides , Huddersfield- Wigan notably
• Says has different ideas regarding the game than ‘Bomber’ and Matt Parish that will add flare to the side and also steel into the back . Knows the existing squad well .
• But Matt put a lot a lot of ideas in place to take the team forward he will continue with
[uother[/u
• Good facilities to train in – Total Fitness – University campus – Willows – now Barton
• squad with a point to proove!
bear with me I'm trying to stay upbeat! The younger - hungrier squad + exiting new imports? we certainly hope so I'm not damning new signings with any hope or faint praise yet .

| DI, you throw your opinions around like they are facts. Do-gooders in your eyes are those who have a different opinion than yourself. I don't doubt your passion, but I do doubt your grip on reality.

| Middleman- I think your post is bang on, there are many pluses to our team. This time last year we were all getting excited about what feka could do and how mcfuk could mould the side. Things are in place and am curious about where Howarth will play? I feel our squad is stronger this year. And not matter how good we think Parish could have been he still only won 1 match with those players. Keep the faith 2012 better than 2011
