| when the Dr & Brian were assembling their Team of all talents in 2014 -
Powell /Orr only had these:-
Ashley Gibson, Lee Jewitt , Liam Finn Scott Wheeldon , Ryan Boyle, Marc Sneyd, Frankie Mariano , Oliver Holmes , Michael Channing , Jamie Ellis
Supposed cast offs from Salford , Leigh, Wakey & Featherstone. yet they ended the season 4th with a cup final appearance.
they then lost Clarke - Sneyd - Huby and Hauraki & replaced them with Squad NRL players - ( Roberts - Solomona) & a scrum half from a relegated side ( Gale ) and repeated the trick ..
I guess the moral is a team is always more than the sum of its parts. lets hope they're building a team .

Football is a different kettle of fish. Lower division sides regular beat teams in higher positions in the FA Cup. This doesn't happen in RL anymore.
Admittedly team spirit is key howwer Sheens only knows Vidot, BMM Carney and Lui the rest are Watsons signings, so to say Sheens has picked hearty players only amounts to 4.

| I've been supportive of the decisions the management team have made thus far, it's obvious we are avoiding fancy dans and aiming for a greater team spirt and better work ethic, I even think that Joseph will be a good signing for a year.
I just though can't see Tomkins giving us anything going forward, more and more in modern RL the hooker is a 3rd half back who can unlock a defence going forward (as much with the pass as scoot) but can also put in some massive telling hit, unfortunately I can't see Tomkins doing either anything better than steadily.
We have a massive back line who should score a hatful, what we need if for the team to be put onto the front foot to help them dominate and I honestly thought that hood was ready made too step up and make a name for himself. I only hope he does in Australia and comes back a better player and comes back to Salford.

We've got a very average squad for 2016 on paper, but lets see what they can do on the pitch before making too many judgements. I would say though that I am not overly convinced by the argument that Sheens is some sort of saviour. Manager of the Aussie national team is the easiest job in RL... you've got the best team in the World at your disposal, they only play a couple of times a year and even when they do, nobody in your own country really cares if you lose. I don't think this automatically translates into some sort of club level coaching genius in 2015... besides which, he's not even the HC.

| It was Sheens 28 years as club coach, numerous preliminary semi final appearnces & 4 grand final wkns that got him the gig as national coach. Notable for reforming under performing sides.
He, s not head coach he's an encyclopedia.

| There seems to be a lot of doom and gloom floating around at the moment. No wonder we struggle to get new fans through the door when you look at some of the depressives on this forum. It's fair enough to feel like that once the season starts, after all, it's our default setting. But polishing your razor blades at this stage seems a little extreme. Pre-season should be a great time for reflection, discussion, and optimism. After all, nobody is top or bottom of the league just yet.
While we haven't set the world alight with recruitment, I find it amazing that people choose to have a moan about not bringing in enough 'names' when it's done us no good whatsoever these past few seasons. The same people were voicing their opinion that young lads or players with effort and heart were required last season, and now we've recruited those types of player they whine about that. You just can't win...

| Come on Butcher, you know FS and kin speak sense: "Lower division sides regular beat teams in higher positions in the FA Cup. This doesn't happen in RL anymore."
We never could beat Wigan, Huddersfield or Leeds. When you attend game it's like a 60's revival night: you know what will happen. Managers and players cannot alter games. It's the matrix in Barton.
FFS.
Remind me not to buy some of you a drink: "Pint of Holts, why isn't it a bottle of Krug Clos d’Ambonnay?"

Aye, I spotted that and chuckled as well. It referred to FA cup upsets which are one off games whereas the analogy was about Leicester City's league form, which has thus far been for half a year. Not an act that can be compared I think, certainly not used as an argument by the person who tried to equate it to knock out football.
I am happy with the way we are going, we tried the big bold approach and it was a nightmare, we are now going down the road of building a cohesive team where the sum is greater than the parts. That's got to be the way forward for sure.

| I'm gonna spice this boring forum up, FFS. The point i was trying to imply, is that in the game of football you can be under the cosh for 89 minutes with the score goal-less and then a last minute lucky break goal gives you a win resulting in an undeserved win in terms of domination. In Football the most dominant team doesn't always win, in Rugby League the most dominant statistically accomplished team 99% of the time always wins.
How many times do we see United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal dominate play and not come away with the win ? its regular. How many times have we heard LVG say we dominated but couldn't score . Every week.
How many times do you see dominating Rugby League team's Win ? 99 %
Different Ball game, you can't compare Leicester City FC to Salford Rugby FFS
You're living in cloud cuckoo land thinking that pile of turd will do a Leicester City
We HOPE Tim has done this, done that. Trust in Tim bull. with that team Tim has GOT some polishing to do
If that is the team now and recruitment has ended ITS A BAG OF SHITE we'll be lucky to survive the middle 8's . If this happens will you still be HOPING and trusting in Tim.?

I think you miss the point most are making. That point being that we just don't know how we'll get on, so a sweeping prediction either way, based on nothing, is a bit worthless. Once the season's underway and we're getting bummed every week, your point will be based on the evidence and so have validity. All you can do is wait and see, and while you may be somewhat correct in that the bigger established sides dominate over a season, any SL team can beat any other on the day. Look at what Cas has achieved to see that mediocre teams if coached right with the right players can raise their profile in the sport.
You're also not being that constructive with your criticism. You're just ranting at this point, and when that happens any valid points you may have are swallowed-up by the emotional outbursts.

Fair comment. I'm just so underwhelmed with the recruitment drive to be honest. I'm sick of hearing Tim's creating this Team spirit yet he's only chosen BMM, Lui, Vidot and Carney himself, the rest of the signings have IW's judgement all over them which worries the living daylights out of me. I remember Moz telling me team spirit was awesome under Noble so its in every coaches best interests to install it. I was also bemused with Watson's appointment of head coach, fair enough give him a role with him being a local lad but giving him the reigns of head coach was shortsighted for me. A few ex players have this opinion too.
Team spirit is paramount in any team sport i know with Castleford being a great example but they had young hard local Castleford lads in their favour and Powell recruited well, we haven't on both fronts.

| Tim Sheens has coached many years in the N.R.L and has the trophys to prove it.No other Australian coach in superleague has done anything in N.R.L.Do you seriously think Watson signs players without Tims say so.They must both get on else Tim would have brought his own people in.In most clubs the Director of Rugby has the final say on signing players.Watson may have the head coach title but is really Tims assistant.

| It's going to be extremely interesting observing how much spirit we have when the 2016 season gets underway. It would be most encouraging to see some genuine camaraderie rather than that false and over excessive try celebrating we had to witness this year. (I heard the last player to go over and congratulate was fined by the club)
