| I don't recall the Saints game but do remember Wigan v Bath.
They must be memorable games !
Brian Noble has signed players from the 15-a-side code before - and of course Jordan Davies from Sale, for us.
The Sale followers started a thread more than complimentary about the World Cup game on Saturday,on their forum, and the opportunity to proselytize should never be overlooked.
Could be a win-win on and off the field and we should grin and bear it;we owe it to Dr K and BN.
I hope we get more supporters there than their lot, though.
Should do as it will be the only home pre-season game.

| Wigan vs. Bath was different in that both codes had entered 'new' eras (a thawing of relations of sorts) and both clubs were dominant in their respective codes for a sustained period of time. So there was a reasonable amount of interest in the game. But once it was done, it was done. Sale vs. Saints was stale in comparison.

By the time Sale played Saints, Sale has realised that the best option for them was to use the only thing they could better Saints on: body bulk. So, for the union half of the game, they just rumbled the ball forward using rolling mauls. I can't see any proposed cross-code game involving Salford being any different. The League half would be Salford having the vast majority of the possession and running tries in on virtually every set of six, while the union half would see Sale grinding the ball up field through the forwards and scoring every time they got up there.

| Just noted that the Dr said himself on Twitter that the cross-code game will probably be at the end of the season to avoid injuries pre-season. Seems a bit weird. As a money-making idea I suppose it may have merit at that time of the season.
On a side note, was nice to see a piccie of the Dr with Billy Slater and him saying not to get the wrong idea, he hasn't signed for us. Yet. Would be a great target for 2015 + especially with Slater's connection to the horse racing fraternity.

| I would rather watch a hybrid of the two rules (codes) than an half of each code.

| NO, NO, NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. After this World Cup, Rugby League does not need to prove anything to our hostile cousins. The serious risk of injury in endless, mind numbing rucks, mauls and scrums is horrific. Play Leigh, Swinton and a super league club in the pre season friendlies. Let us get ready for the best season we have had in years.

Indeed, hope this "match" doesn't happen.

Genuine fans can see the stupidity and futility of such a venture.
If the idea is to convert some Sale fans, then do something more adventurous - maybe at the time the seasons overlap organise a double header or put a free entry voucher in the Sale programmme for a Salford game?

| Quote ="Ave It!"I despise Rugby Union and I despise Sale even more (if thats possible)!
This is a terrible idea as already pointed out, the chance to pick injuries in a meaningless game is a concern, injuries such as to the neck and back will be a risk because RL players are not trained to ruck and maul as is the amount of time we'll waste practising some Rugby Union basics during important pre season training sessions.
Think this one needs rethink, I cringed when it was mentioned by Noble yesterday!!'"
Wigan took the cross code games with Bath seriously. They had a few ex RU converts, Quinnell was one I can remember who went off injured early in the game and they had training sessions with Orrell in the build up to the game. They was still beaten convincingly as Bath played a tight game and as you say unless we practiced in the rucks we will not get any possession aswell as the risk of injury. Practicing for 40 mins of rugby union in a meaningless game is hardly going to be a great use of resources so will be interesting to see if any team preparation would go into the game.
Predictable conclusion, we will smash them at league and they will bully us at union. There are potential PR benefits off the field if marketed properly but for the hardcore Salford and Sale fans we aint going to get any enthusiasm.
Koukash is quoted as saying league is the better game. Is he trying to use a cross code game to try and emphasise his point to the wider audience?

| Quote ="LoyalFan"Couldn't disagree more. In order to decide that we don't like something means that we have watched it. We have based that decision on what we have seen.... and quite frankly... the majority of the time it's dire.
Also... and the main reason that this will be a bad idea is... the same thing will happen in this game that happened in the Saints v Sale game... The Union side will resort to the absolute basics of Rugby Union. They will play the aspects of the game that the league players are just not conditioned for, or know well enough to be competitive. When Sale played Saints, it was during a time when they were at their most expansive. Jason Robinson was at the top of his game and they played as near to league as a Union team could... it was almost watchable... They they turned up for this game and spent 40 minutes rucking and mauling... it was dreadful.'"
It was terrible. There was one passage of play where Sale made about 50meters without the ball coming out of the ruck.

| Quote ="Father Ted"The idea is stupid.
When League is played Salford would give up possession after six tackles.
As soon as Sale get the ball they can have any number of phases - 5 - 10 - 15 whatever they like. Sale would end up with 80% possession. Stupid!
Either play it under 6 tackles and phases each team or unlimited possession and phases for each team, and that won't happen!'"
Erm, I'm pretty sure it's one half of each code, rather than each team playing to their own rules when in possession. Which would be silly, really.

I agree with that, but I think it's for differing reasons.

| This might be the first signs of a side to the Doc taking over the club that some may not like.
He like any business man wants a return on his investment and you'd think personally for him too maximise his and the clubs exposure. You can bet your bottom dollar the Doc will have an angle for doing this and also that it is unlikely this will be the last thing that some see as not needed but to him another step towards making the club generate enough money to be self sufficient.

Koukash has stated he has no expectation of making any return on his investment with Salford. Investing in a near bankrupt club with no record of ever making a profit is hardly conducive to making any money.
I agree that I can see Koukash as the sort of character who would make decisions some fans don't like and expect them to lump it. However, I don't see how he's got an angle for this cross code game. What possible angle is there? People seem to draw inferences from stuff he does as if it's all part of some sporting masterplan when in reality he just does stuff because he's impulsive.

I can honestly see him targeting some of the bigger corporate sponsors that Sale have, some people might not like RU but they have to agree that it is supported by companies that RL can only at the moment dream of attracting (I mean for Gods sake the entire elite competition last season didn't have a title sponsor). Can anyone not see that someone like the Doc would be the best sales person possible if the corporate big wigs attended a cross code game?
I would also not rule out the Doc looking at some form of joint marketing at some point with Sale when the seasons over lap and a Cross Code event isn't a bad place to start. Look at it from his point of view is he entices 500 Sale fans to watch a massively improved Salford team next summer then that's a step towards his idea of getting the ground full for games.
I suspect that there already some form of joint approach to sponsors taking place being that both Salford and Sale seem to have a tie in with RRG Toyota now.
And I really meant more that is wants to try and make the club self sufficient rather than getting a return on his money.
