The game is evolving rapidly in my opinion and there has been a switch by most clubs to much younger coaches. I have no gripes with any of the names you mention as an overseer but not actively on the Training pitch.
In the NRL we have Maguire. Toovey, Steve Price, Cartwright, Flanagan, Trent Robinson, Mick Potter, Ivan Cleary, Ricky Stuart, Furner, Griffin, and Matt Elliott ALL under 50.
Just my view that we need a younger man as Head Coach. Can Nobby work with our two Able Lieutenants Hunte & Long as Assistants?'"
Fair point
What you have to bear in mind these crop of younger SL/NRL assistant -cum-head coaches have come from & inherited top quality set-ups at those clubs from the older generation of coaches.
Salford are essentially a bear bones set up and need an experienced guy in to initiate that quality organisation.
There's just a compelling argument a guy who's been there an ' bought the T-Shirt ' is more a priority for the club at this present time , someone with a big address book that has overseen most facets of the backroom & administration of successful clubs.
the Younger Coaches should then come naturally from within our own set-up ?
Just saying

I feel there is a slight contradiction here.If it is a bear bones set up how does this equate with a guy who has overseen most facets of the backroom and administration of successful clubs ?
I presume you refer to Noble.
If so,he took over at Crusaders after they had one season in Super League and had finished bottom. The previous coach Dixon left the country having been diagnosed with prostate cancer and being owed 30k.
It is believed the RFL paid the salary of Noble and Rod Findlay the executive officer there.( Red Passion - the forum of Wrexham FC will have all the gory details of their administration and liquidation.)
When Noble went there he had a 2 year plan to finish in the top 6 [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1220520/Brian-Noble-turns-Union--American-Football--transform-Celtic-Crusaders-play-contenders.htmlSource[/url
I am sure you agree with me that the administration for a successful club is now in place.
In the Red Square magazine Dr Koukash states - '[i Part of our discussions with all our potential coaches are to do with player recruitment.Who we can get in immediately to strengthen us and who we can get longer term to make us a real force.By the end of this season we want to have a team that people will respect and can compete with the other teams. Not one that is getting beaten by huge amounts.'[/i
The last 2 results would suggest that the 'getting beaten by huge amounts' is no longer going to happen.Alan Hunte would appear to have made a start on player recruitment.
Perhaps the fat lady isn't going to sing....she ain't even gonna approach the stage and microphone.
Especially if a good result awaits tomorrow.
Alan Hunte does seem to be ahead of the end of season schedule...

| Think again we see what Hunte brings to the table with his selection of Okanga-Ajwang as under previous coaches we'd have found an older player and played him out of position. I wonder also if it was his idea to convert Sneyd to fullback as if it is he has for me pulled a master stroke.
I do feel a little sorry for John Ford though with Okanga-Ajwang getting picked ahead of him, if he is better then the strength in depth the youngsters are going to provide bodes very well for the future.

| Ford has been injured, saw him in the players lounge strapped up the other week. Evaldes and Brotherton have also been injured in the past couple of weeks. Alan Hunt has proven if they are good enough, give them a go.

Yep, saw that - it will be a real shame on both men if Noble is coming in and he and Longy aren't big enough to say "that was then and this is now" !!!

| Personally I'd be against Noble coming to the club if Long ends up going as without a shadow of a doubt he is the main factor in everything we have done going forward in the past two seasons.
I know this is all hear say at the moment but if true you'd have hoped that the Docs advisors would have guided him use his skills and wealth to ensure this didn't happen.

That wouldn't be a message sent out on the 1st April would it ?
With the story about our twinning arrangement with Melbourne & the Story in League Express about us signing Josh Dugan I'm liable to be wary of anything posted .

| Are we all going a bit over the top as too how good Long is as a coach? Just a thought! When we say we play a good att6acking brand of rugby, yet we only seem to have one move which Long has had us doing over the last 2 seasons which involves bringing the full back into the line and picking a pass. But what else do we see as being that monumental a change? This is just a thought as I am intrigued as too what we all think Sean does that makes us better? we seem to follow up better than we did under previous coaches, but surely any decent coach would have a team doing this? Is our kicking game better? Please discuss

| Really can't see Longy sticking around if Noble is put in charge of you guys - I think they have very different views on how the game should be played.
As for attacking play - that's the same move Saints have been pulling out for 5 yrs - Wigan too ,

Isn't Longy contracted until the end of the season? And if he did pack it in, would he be in breach of his contract terms? Unless he has another job lined up I think it could be considered a rash thing to do on a personnel financial level for him. (Cutting his nose off to spite his face)
If he doesn't think he has a future at the club when the new coach is appointed surely he's better holding on in there and letting someone else make that decision for him. At least this way he's not walking away without a few months guaranteed pay.
Quote ="Walshovski"There is a pic doing the rounds on Twitter. Noble must be involved somewhere you would think. He is clearly the favourite for the job, just depends whether Smith is involved as well. Trevor Baxter in today's Mirror says 'Salford are set to announced Noble and Smith as the new coaching set up.' Be brilliant if we got both of them onboard.
All very interesting stuff.'"

I agree with this and with Bonita Red. Long seems to get put on a higher and higher pedestal every week that goes by. Saying that I hope if it is Noble, he and Long can work together but let's not be too giddy about Long being indispensable.
He's also got the small matter of this still hanging over him www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21030937

You're assuming that its Long's decision?
I'd be surprised if it was his call.
The new coach will decide on his new back room staff, surely.

| No appointment until next week according to the Manchester Evening News. Makes you wonder what the delay is? The announcement was supposed to be today or tomorrow but it now says Dr Koukash is in Dubai for another week. I can understand it's about getting the right man but just short of 6 weeks to replace a sacked head coach during a season is very unusual.

I take it this book is available in the 'Humour' section of all good book shops ? I don't think he demonstrates any loyalty himself.
Does he mention whether he assists his assistants to be skilled to reach the top job or does he,as in soccer, just have the assistants as BBC men - balls, bibs and cones - and nothing else ?
Although I am not one of those Veivers detractors, someone has failed somewhere, but to then offer to jump into his shoes, after what has happened, leaves a very sour taste.
What the learner hasn't learned the teacher hasn't taught.
If Wikipedia is to be believed the win ratio for Noble got worse at Wigan, and even worse at Crusaders.
At his next club...

Not every assistant will be head coach material. It's also about personality, handling pressure and other qualities that you can't teach. A good assistant coach doesn't always make a good head coach. Fact.

| Exactly, as Theredshed says not all assistants make good Head Coaches, Parish and Lowes spring to mind from our recent past. I am fairly relaxed, we are in good hands, and a panic appointment has not been made, so let's all wait and see what the outcome is.

Agreed.Interesting that someone who had a not very distinguished playing career - bit like Mourinho in soccer - but who coached at a lower level and was assistant at a couple of clubs before being a young head coach in Super League and now the youngest head coach in the NRL,had a good result the other day.Trent Robinson coached his lot to a heavy defeat for a former Australian national coach,Ricky Stuart.
In his interview Robinson stated he wasn't interested in results but in something else;which he failed to elaborate on.

Sydney Roosters hammer pathetic Parramatta Eels 50-0
Quote Dean Ritchie - Parramatta urgently need a roster overhaul. They need more size in their forwards. They simply cannot compete with the competition's top sides.'"
Quote Stuart ''But I have told them the coaching staff will stick with them during the tough times. When I got here I knew it would be a tough assignment and this shows that.
''I can't say it won't happen again. It will. I hope and want it to turn around quickly but it won't.''We did our best but they outclassed us,'' Stuart said. ''When you are not as good as other teams, you need everything to go your way.

the Roosters Eels Result was more about the quality of the two respective NRL sides than the age / experience of the Managers , Roosters spent Big , including SBW , whereas Parramatta are now being classed as a struggling team unable to match the spending power of the others ,
some of the quotes about the size of the forwards & quotes from Stuart sound awfully familiar ..
