| He's currently training with Wigan u-20's, depending on how it goes between now and the start of the season they will be offering him a contract.

Oh I'm sorry hillbilly my opinion doesn't agree with yours, IMO our scouting system needs to snare LOCAL lads, like candland, castleford have one of our own local lads, we have also had plenty under our noses who have been snaffled, morley, betts, hanson,Jackson. Recently we have brought spencer, owen and sneyed through but palfrey, wood, hobson, ambler have fallen by the wayside. The point is Salford lads should be given a shot with their hometown club!

| Oh and while I'm at it hillbilly I didn't say hunte has done nothing of merit. I was pointing out that our scouting team need to concentrate MORE on the salford catchment area. And I know as my family are on the service area coaching team, and 3 brothers that play for the city. Family loyalty aside salford kids need to be given the chance and to be proud to pull on the Jersey. From personal experience the set up sometimes makes promises and then breaks them leaving salford boys disllusioned with the club and game.

| To be honest, he wasn't that good until he was about 17 when he matured and got some size. I don't think Wigan would have noticed him just from playing at Eccles atall if it wasnt for his Lancashire selections etc. Cracking player now though and certainly shows that if you don't make it by the age of 16 that you haven't lost your chance.

| I know that our academy system is improving but Salford and Alan Hunte does not have the pulling prestige or finances that Clubs Like Wigan & Leeds have at their disposal . ( Offering full training kit etc )
It is disheartening that names like Adrian Morley / Denis Betts have not been seen in Salford Colours, and still with the Likes of Ryan Brierley ( Cas ) , Kallum Watkins ( Leeds ) and now it seems with this lad we are still missing out on local talent?

| Cavendish - the point HBR is making is that is you are approached by one of the "big clubs" then you are most likely to be swayed by that rather than your home town club who have been struggling for years.
But that's the history - the future is bright, the future is RED!!

I'll tell you why this lad wasn't scouted, its due to the sheer folly bias in the Salford academy ranks with lee spencer (jack spencer's dad) one of the main academy coaches put pete carey and Sam Rainford there (all folly coaches) even though our current national confrence team is EsJ they don't get a sniff? Saying that Salford have never been interested in Eccles A.R.L.F.C actually apart from ian watson i can't think of one salford player coming from the eccles club? Disgrace really when you think eccles produce easily the best open age team in salford, well what's salfords loss is wigans gain, i know payden well my youngest brother went to school with him, and if you asked him face to face would he like to play for the reds he'd snap your hands off! But if Alan Hunte isn't going to bother setting foot at this lads amature club then i say good luck at Wigan payden they'll look after you their.

Or the fact that in the past few years there hasn't been an age group at Eccles/Langworthy at 16's level that has had a player good enough?

What like payden? I'll tell you the reason eccles don't have good youth its due to the lack of help from Salford, The reds should be advertising in the papers for players to go down and play for Eccles and help with abit of funding like they do with folly, what actually happens with the kids at eccles is they get that fed up with the lack of interest they go across te rd to the dark side (Eccles RU) and play there where they are well looked after and this is where payden went to play before rejoining Eccles a.r.l.f.c open age, nearly all the Rugby union players go back to the league team in the end, this is why they continue being the best open age side in salford.

=#0000FFI think the Valentine cup decides that? In which Eccles were beat in the semis by a Folly side consisting of 2nd teamers and under 18's.
Anyway, like i said previously when Candland was the age at which foundation teams etc are picked he simply wasn't good enough. He is now though which is obviously why he's at Wigan and i'm pretty sure they spotted him playing representative games rather than playing for Eccles.

The Valentine cup? Eccles never put a full strength side out in that tournament anymore the rather concentrate on the national conference league instead.
You don't just suddenly become good its always there its just that you need to spot that talent and that’s what Salford have never done with young lads from the area,
I personally remember when Callum Watkins was palmed away from the folly lane club the reason being (he just doesn't have it) he then went onto play for latchford where he was given a chance and as they say the rest is history!
Salford have never had a good reputation for good scouting we've had players like Harrison Hansen and Adrian Morley slip from the net and when we have a small pool of talent like Salford (due to soccer domination) we can't afford to turn a blind eye anymore.

Put them against lads from the wigan saints warrington academy's and you'll realise their not that good? The game needs sorting at grass roots level in Salford with unbiased views most importantly.

It isn't absolute bollox... i was very good friends with cashley his brother and callum's dad also who told me about the situation and shortly after he was booted off the salford scholership also, i could even name the coach who stated she didn't see anything in him (i was there when the words came out of her mouth), i won't say who she is but she is one of the few female coaches at folly,
So shows how much you know happy red!
