People at the meeting at Eccles tonight seem to be reporting that a cross code game against Sale is going to happen. Not a fan of it myself - aside from finding union incredibly tedious to watch, i just see it as a good way to pick up a silly injury.

As a fan of both codes I'm really looking forward to this, if it actually happens!

I'm with Iain. We don't need to prove anything, we all know RL is the better code. All it does is expose our team to injuries.

How do cross code games play, one half following each set of rules? Maybe a chance to steal some Sale supporters if the recent post about them being disgruntled with union is true.

The one between Sale and Saints a few years ago was half of each. I really hate the idea of a hybrid game.

No need for this. We should be playing Swinton as a return favour for how they helped us out not mincing about with Sale in a nonsense game.

For the people worried about injuries, the lads are professional rugby league players not china dolls. Any injury they could suffer during a union game they are just as likely to suffer from a league game.

I think a lot of you should open your minds and I'm sure you will enjoy it, if it happens.

But if they suffered an injury in a league game it's an occupational hazard. Some 30st Jason Leonard type falling on Rangi Chase just before the season is exactly what we don't need. Hopefully no one bothers turning out for this and it never happens again.

I've never enjoyed watching rugby union when it's played by people who are good at it. I can't see my enjoyment being enhanced by it being played by people who are worse, just because they are familiar.

I played it for seven years when I was in school and try and watch the Six Nations every year before succumbing to boredom. I'd struggle to count the number of games on one hand that I've found exciting, I just find it mind-numbingly dull.

I went to watch Sale against Exeter with one of my mates last season where they managed a victory in one of the few games they did win during the year. Despite the tickets being free, we both agreed we would never go back again. On the way back to the car park we could only listen on in amazement when overhearing people saying it had been the best game of the season.

Couldn't disagree more. In order to decide that we don't like something means that we have watched it. We have based that decision on what we have seen.... and quite frankly... the majority of the time it's dire.

Also... and the main reason that this will be a bad idea is... the same thing will happen in this game that happened in the Saints v Sale game... The Union side will resort to the absolute basics of Rugby Union. They will play the aspects of the game that the league players are just not conditioned for, or know well enough to be competitive. When Sale played Saints, it was during a time when they were at their most expansive. Jason Robinson was at the top of his game and they played as near to league as a Union team could... it was almost watchable... They they turned up for this game and spent 40 minutes rucking and mauling... it was dreadful.

Nothing to do with injuries for me, I just don't want to watch Salford play union or Sale play league. An absolutely pointless d*ck measuring game.

Agreed. Hopefully both sets of fans will give this one a miss.

Pretty certain that the Doc would use something like this to not only further advertise the club but you'd think to target the Sale corporate types to try and get them interested in and supporting all year round rugby.

I'd personally like to see someone like Danny Ciprianni try his hand at RL, talented RU player. I doubt this will actually happen as can't see where it will fit in, games over Christmas, 3 weeks away and then you'd think a couple of games against SL opposition just before the season doesn't exactly leave much scope for something like this.

Watching trainee lawyers rub chilli sauce into each other's backsides while some bouffant-haired bell called Charlie dips his 'plums' in a pintpot, all in the name of "epic bantz"? Not for me thanks. Nope, we should steer well clear of the Union lot.

You should see what they do once they stop training.

Injuries during games of RL are part of the seasonal ebb and flow of RL. Injuries during pointless games of RU/RL hybrid damages your ability to perform during the season.

It's not about opening our minds. We've all seen RU, played it, tried it again and again. We all know it's like paying good money to be bored. We don't need to open our minds.

Will there be half price tickets if you only want to watch half the game?

This is an absolute pointless exercise IMHO!

The idea is stupid.
When League is played Salford would give up possession after six tackles.
As soon as Sale get the ball they can have any number of phases - 5 - 10 - 15 whatever they like. Sale would end up with 80% possession. Stupid!
Either play it under 6 tackles and phases each team or unlimited possession and phases for each team, and that won't happen!

I despise Rugby Union and I despise Sale even more (if thats possible)!

This is a terrible idea as already pointed out, the chance to pick injuries in a meaningless game is a concern, injuries such as to the neck and back will be a risk because RL players are not trained to ruck and maul as is the amount of time we'll waste practising some Rugby Union basics during important pre season training sessions.

Think this one needs rethink, I cringed when it was mentioned by Noble yesterday!!

Was this mentioned as a pre season game last night? Koukash on twitter is saying that it would be an end of season game.

Yeah, I'm sure Noble said it would be sandwiched in between the Leigh and Warrington pre season friendlies if I heard correctly.

Think it would be a good game to be honest, would help with fitness and would hopefully help develop players skills in certain areas where they may not be as focused on. Would be a good crowd as well, hope it happens!
