| Saints were outstanding tonight, they took the game very seriously and outplayed us in every department. On a positive note for Salford we will definitely improve and get much better with the big teams playing with that extra intensity and motivation against us now. I remember Warrington suffering a few losses against Saints before they eventually turned the tide. Rome wasn't built in a day but our time will come. The big bubble is burst but the dream is still alive.
It's Time to lick the wounds and put a massive one in next week against Widnes.

| Third Saints try the killer. If Salford had got a score just before it might have been interesting. But Saints had already scored a perfectly legit third try ( not given incredibly) previous anyway so fairs fair. Apart from effort outclassed in every department and looked toothless. Devils are supposed to have teeth.

| I think it would be safe to say was pretty much a complete game from saints, far superior than tabun every department. Manu opening stint set the tone if the game killed our left hand defence, Fages and Meli both turnstyles in there effort. Also their back seemed to has far more pace than ourselves.
From a Salford point of view, we looked totally void of any ideas in attack, Smith game is not to create he keeps the plays rolling and astute kicking game, a lot lies on Chase shoulders this season, he is the player that will spark our attack into life. Smith and a mare tonight along with Fages, would much rather us kept Sneyd and sent Fages out on loan, he is too raw for SL and easily gets exposed. Out pack was completely outplayed tonight, although was expected with the injuries, kick chases let me down tonight, very pedestrian allows saints to get a role on. Could rumble on about tonight and single ayers out but I'd rather St Helens take the plaudits and let I realise how far we have to go if we wish to compete.

Got to be honest I thought it was a try also? If we are are talking about Devils and toothless I think you should be looking at the overpaid muppets a little further down the road. You know the one's who can't pass a round ball 5 yards despite being on six figures a week!!

| On a positive note, we've gone from bottom to marginally worse than Wire in three games. Sts to finish too with Walsh m.o.s.

| I know all you lot are thinking you are going to lift it, but on tonight's evidence Salford are light years away from winning the Grand Final.
An owner full of hot air, a coach who only ever has one plan and is past it and a hugely overrated side full of OAPs...not a good combination, all told.
And I don't see it getting any better.
Salford are not a big club.

Personally before a ball was passed this season I'd be over the moon with top 6 finish!!

| With the politest possible respect, I know saints are getting a lot of credit from various places, but it was far from a polished performance from us. Lots of errors in the 15-20 mark allowed you guys to steady the ship as it were. But we never really had much structure in attack. I would be very upset if we were still playing like that in August.
Our defence was very good, but you didn't give us a lot to defend. The only time I felt uncomfortable was when hock had the ball, and each run had diminishing returns.
Why it was a no try is beyond me.

Fair point but you have to understand it's the same for both clubs. Don't forget Salford have 14 new players who are still gelling!! . . . And 3 big players who were out injured tonight. Saints played what was in front of them and played very well IMO.

Fair point. Line speed seemed to be your biggest problem from a saints point of view - you'd either send 3 guys charging at 1st receiver, and we simply passed around you, or you gave us all the space in the world!
We had one very big player out

The speed was frightening, particularly in the first 40. It's great for me, the real Saints turned up tonight and that kind of intensity will benefit Salford's progress in the long run.
No club will take us lightly anymore and that will really help improve us as a team.
Saints gave us respect and I applaud them for that.

| Good thread,Wirecutter,
It hasn't calmed me down because I have definitely been to Hell tonight, watching that !
I like St Helens, for a whole host of reasons and I congratulate them.
I must remind myself that Nathan Brown has been there far longer than Brian Noble has been at Salford, and Nathan Brown got off to a very bad start last year.
So much so that Mr McManus got himself involved - [url=http://www.dailystar.co.uk/rugby-league/339754/Eamonn-McManus-rap-stirs-up-St-HelensStory[/url
Losing 1 game in February means absolutely nothing.
Well done Stuart Howarth for his last tackle option with 2 minutes remaining.
Credit where it's due.

| Saints were great.
We were blown away at first but then we defended exceptionally well for the rest of the first half.
Their third try was the killer and it was downhill after that.
Didn't understand the kicking game at all. That's Smith's strength usually.
Tasi and Hansen were surprisingly quiet and, apart from Hock, our attack was very weak.

| Saints would have probably beaten anyone on their performance. It was a massive arm wrestle the whole match and we had no spark in attack which was the difference. I'm not overly bothered. The team never stopped trying and will get better and better.

| If Saints play that well all season, they will win trophies. I doubt they would've played that well against the team we had last year - I really think that they raised their game, expecting a bigger battle.
My only criticism is that our kicking game was poor, perhaps when Chase is back it will take some pressure off Smith and this part of his game will improve? Walsh was exceptional for them.
Let's get 2 points from Widnes, and let's take that game seriously as a marker for improvement, then let's look at Wire - I mean, Myler and Ratchford shouldn't scare us!

| Saints were my tip to win the whole thing before a ball had been kicked, last night they shown why. Whilst they didn't do anything spectacular they did the basics so well. They were tough in defence, quick round the PTB and and moved the ball outwide quick. Add Mase Masoe to those forwards and they've got a formidable pack with a set of even better backs.
I don't think we'll play a better team all season and I don't think we'll play any worse. Had we scored at 12-0 when we were on their line it would have been different, we were the better team for the opening 10-15 of the second half but instead Saints went the full length and put the game to bed
Last night was never going to define our season, or show far we've come, as the Wakefield or London game wouldn't. Still too many individuals playing and I wouldn't expect this to change until after 12 games in.
We obviously missed Rangi massively on the left side, Griffin also.
Dust ourselves down and go again at Widnes next week, these are the games we should be winning.

You've correctly identified him as a troll, and not even an imaginative one, as he keeps it at the "I'm lonely, please be my friend" level of "your team's crap, your crowds are low". Then you spoil your good work by responding. Someone responds, he gets excited, he comes back.
Ignore him. It's like troll bleach.

| Saints were outstanding. Their forwards took the ball at full pace, helped massively by the quality of James Roby, and this enabled them to bust through tackles and get the ball away. Our forwards, on the other hand, seemed to be jogging when they received the ball and then had to accelerate, giving Saints time to gang up. I can't recall a single offload all night. Morley made some good yards, but why does he do that little 'shilly-shally' when he gets the ball? Surely, he'd be more effective if he just ran at the defence. On the back of the lack of 'go-forward', the halves were swamped and our kicking game was pants. The only decent kick we put in all night was Stuart Howarth's near the end. Hopefully, this is all a timing issue and will improve as the season goes on.
I guess our MoM was Hock or Morley. Hope Hock's OK for the Widnes match.

| After the game there was a muppet in the fans bar trying to kick off with myself and a friend when he heard us say that Saints will be the team to beat this season. Think we say last night the team everyone will have to beat and if I were a gambler I'd stick a bucket full off money on them to win the CC.
Luke Walsh could be the best overseas signing a team has made in a very long time, the way he ran the game last night was a throw back to when Long was at Saints and again they were the team to beat.
As for Salford I think if anyone thought we'd go through the season without the odd drubbing is a little naive, you can't make such wholesale changes to a playing rosta and not occasionally get out played and forget the game play.
