Leigh Centurions Make It Into Super League
A place in Super League 2023 was the prize as massive favourites Leigh Centurions took on massive underdogs Batley Bulldogs at the Leigh Sports Village in the final game of the domestic calendar.
Batley sprang an enormous surprise last weekend when they eliminated the Featherstone Rovers to take their place in the Million Pound Game, but if they were a long shot last week, this week the target was beyond the vision of mortal men. In the regular season, Batley had scored just one try against Leigh in the league, while conceding a massive one hundred and sixteen points to them.
The bookies gave the Bulldogs a forty point start on the coupon and many pundits were predicting that it might could be considerably worse for them in what promised to be the most one-sided Championship Grand Final of all time.

First of all, well done Leigh.
This has looked nailed on since they beat Fev so comfortably in the 1895 cup final and well done to Batley for making the final, with a part time squad, a huge achievement.
The seemingly unlimited spending of Leigh did make something of a mockery of the comp but, no rules were broken and good luck to them back in the big time. |

Probably a good summary of the issues with the sport currently. Leigh won it because they sport significantly more on overseas players than any other club. Half of those now cannot move up to Super League with them because of the rules in place. That seems daft to me. If they want to have a competitive squad, let them.
Hopefully Leigh come up and are competitive and add to their crowds. We don't need another 3,000 average club, they should be up around the 7-8,000 mark and the only way they can do that is by being competitive. Hopefully Derek spends a much time on how to get people through the door and the community engaged as he does on moaning this time.

I was a big fan of Toulouse, I think it's ridiculous we allowed them to go down. Leigh can always prove me wrong though and are one of the clubs that [i'could'[/i achieve an 'A' category over time. Maybe I'm remembering the last time you were in Super League when all those things were true. Derek talking of 8,000 crowds has maybe cheered me up, but the challenge to come up with a suitably competitive squad is there. Leigh could be a better SL team than Wakefield and Salford due to their potential, but will they? Or will it be the same as last time? |

Me and you are not cut from the same cloth sunshine, you can shove your 'grading categories' up your arris. You wouldn't be typing this crap if your club hadn't won a trophy for 30 years. As for Toulouse, apart from a nice trip for away fans they offered nothing, but you already knew that. |

This Leigh team is a solid team and also well coached and managed, that is the key ingredient we that has been missing previously and will be vital next year. Would be good if a promoted teAm was given some dispensation on quota numbers in year 1 at least as a competitive promoted team is a positive story for RL as Barrow has shown in the championship. People seem to criticise the investment in this years squad but that is the best way to stand a chance when you do get promoted and although we cannot keep all the overseas players we can choose the key players to retain. Applaud DH for his investment in the sport. As far as an Academy goes there are enough young RL players in Leigh to run an academy but the RL seems to be blocking this investment which is riduculous.

If [i[u[size=200ANY[/size[/u[/i club in SL relies on 1,000 away fans generating £40,000 (at best) in income, then that club has no place being considered a Super League standard club.
Well done Leigh and applause to Delboy for stumping up the cash, but this isn't a sprint and statistically, they will be hard pressed to stay up unless another club has a mare! |

As far as I can tell Wakefield (or anyone else) would be relegated if they were awarded a B licence, on a Tuesday in March, but only if it's a clear sky and there are no more than 17% of cars passing the ground that are silver, within which are less than 50% people born in the immediate locality. |
