I think it would help refs, obviously not having to take teams back 10m. I'd also ban being able to kick in a forwards direction. No scrums, option of a 7 on 7 play only after a knock-on. Conversions are drop-kicks, from a pass 10m in from touch, opposition can run to try and charge the conversion down; 1 point for a conversion. 20 minute quarters. Unlimited interchanges from 4 on the bench.

I preferred games played with the 5 metre defensive line, I prefer the tension of lower scoring games.

I don't mind quite a few tries being scored. Depends on the all-round quality of the teams. Would luv to see the Kangaroos v England in 11-a-side with less kicking.

Believe me, only being able to separate teams 5 metres apart and having no forward kicks would not help refs at all. They would bash the hell out of each other up the middle all the way through. Battle of who has the biggest set of forwards.

The defence would be on them too quick for that. They only have to go 5 metres to get to them, and they'll have plenty energy to do that with as they're running a lot less to get onside, not having to chase kicks, having all those extra rests you've added with the unlimited interchanges and 20 minute quarters. It would just be 10 forwards and one halfback/hooker taking 6 drives at the defensive line. Take the drop goal any time you get within range.

1 aside. If you score a try you have to hop on 1 leg, score a 2nd try go on your knees etc. Ends with 2 players rolling around the pitch trying to get to each other’s try line? If the BBC wont do it Sky will.
