| I have just read a report which came out of Harvard. This stated that Social distancing would have to remain in place until 2022. If this were to be the case, where would this leave sport ? More importantly. Were would that leave the Broncos ?
Okay, I will say it. The Broncos will be okay, they already practice it. But if it were to be imposed until then, we are in trouble.

| The general consensus seems to be that we will go through a period of varying levels of restrictions from now until a vaccine is invented.
Given the likely crowd levels, Broncos games may be able to go ahead bar under the strictest periods but: -
How many other teams will be left standing? (Assuming Broncos are.)
Will people be willing to travel by train, tube etc to watch sport?
The situation is extremely serious for many sports clubs. Ironically our funding model, subsidised by a rich man who has his money in the bank and is retired so presumably won't need to pull the plug to bail out his main business(es) - may work in our favour. Obviously if he pulls his funding, given the lack of alternative funding coming in he's presumably facing a bigger hole than anticipated, it's probably goodbye.
However, I can see stricter salary caps coming in after this and that may cause problems.
It's inevitable the fall out from this will be huge, I don't think anyone really knows in quite what way it will impact yet.

| Looks like NRL have got a target re start date, obviously has to be flexible and might change, with option of NZ getting special clearance to travel to and stay in Aus.
As for here, just shows how un informed Phil Clark is when discussing UK league, talking about problem with Toronto and French teams. Toronto are based in UK so no travel issues, and travel to and from France isn't actually restricted so Catalan and Toulouse could travel.
For me cant see UK RL being able to re start until end of June early July with way things are going.
As said in another thread, hopefully the way we are funded we should be Ok, are London players fuloughed anyone know?

The NRL are probably getting ahead of themselves.
[iAustralia’s chief medical officer Brendan Murphy warned on Sunday he thought it was “premature” to be planning a comeback amid the coronavirus. And sports minister Richard Colbeck on Monday morning told ABC Radio that while he wanted to see leagues return as soon as possible it had to be within reason.
“I think it’s a bit ambitious to be frank,” Colbeck said. “If you consider the advice that we are still getting from people like Brendan Murphy ... they’re the people who I think should be providing advice on these things.[/i

As David Hughes makes his money out of oil will he have a problem funding the Broncos as the bottom has dropped out of the oil market.

Just interested in status of the club, has everyone been fuloughed? If so the outgoings are pretty small

| Social distancing until 2022 is not sustainable in any society. Businesses will have to eventually get going again along with that public transport and movement of people.
This is not going to go away and will come back even with a vaccine, let's not forget, during the same period this has been going on, on average over the last 5 years probably 30000 people die of other Corona flu viruses. The same number this year.
It's the demand for those that dont succumb thats the big drain on NHS.
Twelve months time football stadiums will be full again, Wimbledon will be on as will Cheltenham.
Hopefully Broncos will still be here as well.
Still reckon a couple of SL teams might go to the wall

I agree with your last line. Be interesting to see if Salford survive.
I get the sense a few clubs in our league and below may go. How sustainable are the Bulls, Swinton, Oldham, Rochdale.......

| Think some of the smaller clubs are possibly in a better position, depends on how the part time contracts work, if they only pay players when they play then the player wage bill is zero. Other outgoings will place some burden but Bulls for example dont even have odsal to worry about anymore.
Let's see eh and hope for the best

Some of those clubs may be ok. If they rent stadiums and training facilities when needed, that out going is on hold. It is likely some of those clubs have a fair chunk of pay to pay players so that expense is on hold and they haven't lost revenue from function rooms, bars etc. as they rent stadia and probably don't get that money anyway.
I think the big risk to them would be if any benefactor has to pull future funding due to issues with companies they own meaning they have less spare cash to blow on sport.
I think there's a real risk to some of the bigger clubs who own their own ground, and bank a lot of money from non match day facility hire etc. Usually diversification would be a strong point however, in this strange world, it's suddenly s vulnerability

| Not a lot own there own grounds though.
It's interesting, team like huddersfield, they must have contracts in place for them to pay for stadium rent, even if they are not using it would not imagine that's been wiped off.
Teams that do own there own facilities have running costs of those facilities.
Do we reckon Saints players are happy on 2 and half grand a month or expecting top up from benefactor.
Salford will still be paying there bit for the stadium, kougash not there to pay that.
Pro teams with players on furlough still need to find the money to pay those on furlough then get it back, what's the staff numbers at Leeds about 150 total I think, that's a big bill to pay with no income.

| Be interesting to see in all pro sports what the view of govt is on letting them go to playing behind closed doors, its something football are talking about already at higher levels.

| The Premier League have rowed back a bit tonight, telling their teams behind closed doors games will only be permitted once they are able to test everyone in the stadium before the game.

| There is an interesting debate that could be had, Tom lineham is only player I have heard of that has contracted the virus and that was from his partner who is NHS frontline.
Any NRL RFL premier league football players! Emphasise players! reported as having contracted the virus.
NRL and AFL continued in aus longer than most, yet no reports of any transmission in the closest of contact sports.
Down to overall fitness levels? Thoughts.

James Cunningham contracted it too. Took him 4 weeks to shake off the effects.

| Still interesting 2 (that we know of) out of quite a large number of players, assuming let's say a squad size of 25. That's 300 in SL. Not seen any reports on Aus Rugby League press.
Hopefully numbers have reached the peak and start declining
