| Wasn’t there but I gather Max was HB and did really well?
I’ve said for ages and you can check that Max is a halfback in hiding. His eye for the pass and general reading of the game is pure old style SO for me. Sometimes out of disaster comes a ray of light. Not diminishing those who are injured but what a nice little bonus all the same.
As I say wasn’t there so maybe talking rhubarb but if so Take it Max, it’s there for you!

| Thought he was mom myself really pleased for him. Have always been a fan but his lack of pace means he’s only ever going to fill in as a stand off.
Be interesting to see how he goes over next couple weeks, be nice if he could hold his place when broughs match fit.

| Agree with Kirmudgeonly, my MoM too.
Not everything clicked going forward but, he got better and better as the game went on and his defensive effort was superb.
Maybe Chester will get some credit for putting him in there too.
There ought to be a "Chester In" thread
Very well played Max and let's hope there are a run of games to see how things develop.
Understanding and timing can only improve with a decent run of games in the halves.

| Max is light years ahead of brough in his speed of leg but years behind in his skill levels in this position .
The lad had a good game especially as the game went on and he felt more comfortable with his surroundings, helped by a dominant display by our forwards .I doubt he’ll have such an easy ride against the bigger clubs .
I tip my hat to max he got the call and didn’t let anyone down, pity he hasn’t got more games under his belt at this position, I bet it’s a lonely place when you’ve got every one wanting to knock your head off .

| He has done really well to fill that gap and his MoM was just reward but I can't see him being a long term solution. He is absolutely a bonus and great stop gap for us.
I wouldn't actually be offended if he kept his place when Hampshire or Brough come back, but long term, we need a half back solution that can control a game and finish sets off with a dominant action. None of them are doing that at the moment so Max has a great opportunity to be the guy.
I'd also say Miller steps up in situations like this. I reckon Max enjoyed his half back debut far more with Miller next to him than if it had been Brough.

| Do not agree about Jowitts lack of pace ,if you compare him to Hampshire you are right .He ran a try in from about 40yards with no problem. When Salford had a overlap on the wing is covering was out standing got across 4 times in the second half . Is kicking near the Salford line was good. The passing of the ball is still very slow, but we seemed to pick up for 20 mins in second half .Good start but work in progress

| We really need to cut the lad some slack.
If you look at Warrington's star studded squad and how difficult Widdop is finding it to find his feet in their side.
Compare that to the performance of Jowitt yesterday, not to mention our spluttering attack of the current season (and much of last year) and that gives a better measure on just how well the lad did.
Trinity fans always want a scapegoat, for the inevitable set backs that we have but, it has to be said that generally those judgements are wrong.
Every time we get beat, you can put your mortgage on Lyne, Crowther or Jowitt getting bagged and it's not on.
Lets give him the credit he deserves and get behind the team.
It's a hell of a lot easier to play any sport when people are supporting you, rather than waiting to hang you out to dry.

| Max did well, hopefully Chester will now give him a good run. And if he keeps performing he should keep his place even when some more 'illustrious' names return.

| He did a very good job yesterday and deserved MOM did young Max, if we're criticising him for pace then we're nit picking. Miller might be quicker off the blocks but i've lost count of the amount of times he hasn't finished a break as he runs out of steam. Had no doubts Max was finishing that effort yesterday once the ball was in his hands. His defence has been brought in to question many times but I think he's hugely improved and i'd have him under a high ball ahead of anyone in our squad.
What of course helped yesterday was the forwards having some impact. I look forward to having Arona and Fifita back out there later this season and opening up more space. Some work needed on the 5th tackle plays still but there was an improvement on the kicking at Salford with the opposition being tested; few wasted short kicking options and the ball eneding up with the wrong players on the 5th needs tightening up.
Different quality of opposition against FC on Friday night but i wouldn't change the halves at this point.

| Not sure with the obsession with pace, Max is fairly quick. I take peoples points but I see Max as a player who can read a game better than most, pace isn't always a necessity when creating for others, Max has created a number of TJ's tries.
I'm never going to accept that a player is totally locked to a position and I just have a hunch with Max. Let's be honest almost everyone on here said Lyne would never be a centre, need I say more

Not sure I agree about a top stand off getting by without that explosion of speed (rather than out and out speed) my post was actually complimenting max on his performance not bagging him for being slow - it was more just a general observation about his future. Your trying to imply i was criticising him which i wasn't

Been saying same for ages. Didn't Jonny Lomax used to be full back? I get that Lomax is ahead in terms of his game but I would be giving Max the SO position every week. He can pass a ball, sees the cut out pass well, good feet, backs up like a good full back.

I don't disagree with your point particularly but Lomax isn't an example like Max.
He was a half back who didn't quite have it so moved to fullback to develop and is now moving back.
That's more like Rocky's journey.
Max has a chance. I'm intrigued to see what he can do.

The lad is obviously talented, and has probably now played in 4 different positions for us at various times? I don't see why he can't improve his skills that are already there to some degree and become a competent performer at this level playing at 6 probably. Surely this comes down to the coaches improving his skills? If they see him as a potential 6or7 are they prepared to put the time and effort into developing his game, and not shunting him out of the team every time he has a dodgy game, or the so called better option returns from injury

| Also congrats to CC for trying him and it coming off, instead of the safer option of Miller and probably Kyle Wood at 7.

Whatever faults his detractors lay on him you can't fault his attitude and surely you can't deny him the opportunity to be given a proper chance which he hasn't had before.

| Jowitt's improved so much over the last 9 months I was very critical for his attitude to defence but now he looks bigger & stronger & a much better all round player good luck to the lad & let him have some game time

| Whatever views fans have of Max Jowitt, there can be no doubting the lad's commitment to WT. Many would have spit the dummy out by now after the way he's been treated over the last four years but he's remained loyal and is always there when called upon.
The arguments regarding his best position will no doubt go on but his versatility makes him a very capable utility player, the kind that all clubs need.
Extend his contract I say!
