| Can’t get my head around this, I know it’s on telly but they are half a hour less travelling to Salford than Wakey fans. Suppose they will always be poorly supported.

It doesn't shock me at all. The giants away support has been awful for years, although its not as bad as some would have it. Their home support is the same as yours and that is on the back of 3 dismal seasons. Huddersfield is a Soccer town, that's just how it is, Be glad Wakey don't have a soccer team. Good luck on Sunday by the way ( if it's not called off )

Better stadium, and indisputably Hudds have had more success then Trinity in SL era. Not to mention recently cheapened tickets.

| It’s one of the great oddities of British sport, it happens a lot in football but it’s rife in RL.
It’s money going to the wrong clubs.
Now millionaires and Councils are free to invest in whom ever they wish so this is not a dig at either. It’s just an observation.
Salford and especially Hudds have never been popular well supported clubs. Yes, Salford have done better in that they were genuinely successful and popular for a brief spell in the 70’s. Hudds glory era frankly belongs to a different age but then so does ours.
Yet both these clubs have got all the breaks despite neither appearing even close to being viable, certainly not in the SL era. Rich benefactors and free brand spanking stadiums, yet both continue to fail. Why? Who knows.
Contrast that to both of Wakefield’s SL clubs. Neither has ever had what you’d call a real sugar daddy. Both play out of decrepit grounds and one (us) has not reached a major final since 1979!
Yet somehow we still appear far more viable than either Salford or Hudds and that’s despite the latter’s financial advantage. Cas are far superior to both. The fact that we are still in SL says it all, it’s a triumph of willpower from the supporters imho.
Imagine if either of us had received the breaks those two clubs have had. The Cas v Wakefield derby would no longer be a one sided novelty derby but possibly one of the biggest out there.
We are not alone, both Bradford and Widnes have far more potential but neither have received the breaks. Sure Bradford had its moment but as we now know it was built on sand and they will take years to recover, or maybe they never will.
What’s certain is that none of the clubs mentioned seem to attract truly rich men and only Widnes can say it benefitted from council support.
As I say it’s luck of the draw but it always strike me as odd just how often money flows to the clubs with the least potential.
Here’s a striking example, Man City are now the top team in Manchester on the field. Yet off it they still lag massively behind United in every respect. History, support, brand, you name it. They can’t fill their ground for most games yet United still has a 25 year waiting list and it going up! You may hate them, a lot do but you can’t deny like Liverpool their success is genuine and like Liverpool you know they will come back whilst City will fade. Football success is in the DNA of both the scousers and United and that DNA is important.
True in City’s case money has bought success but will it last? Only so long as the Arabs keep funding it, we all know that.
Trinity are ripe for success and development, we are a rarity in RL. We are a club that is nowhere near it’s true potential. Sleeping giant may be over doing it but with what the likes of Hudds have received I’m utterly convinced we would achieve so much more than them. You only have to look at the massive turnouts we suddenly get for semi finals and relegation deciders, it’s clearly there.
In places like Cas and Wakefield RL is in our DNA, maybe not as much as it once was but it’s still there in enough quantity for us to be up there with the Warrington of this world. Remember it’s only 20 years since the Wire were no better than bog average and lived on a hovel. But look what money and a new ground had done to a club that did always have potential and did have RL DNA.
Anyone bought a lottery ticket?
Ps. No offence to Hudds or Salford fans it’s not your fault it’s just how I see it.

The "free" brand spanking new stadiums just isn't true.
Yes, they have been built but, the rent charged, together with how match day revenue is shared our, has crippled Salford.
Huddersfield are different, as they have Mr Davey to make up any shortfall, which definitely makes a huge difference.
Sustained on field success is the only way to genuinely increase crowds and all the money in the world doesn't guarantee that.

Oh come on mate, artistic license. You get the point though surly? True there are pitfalls as you’ve noted but they are still in a better place than us.
Also remember this, the reason the rents etc are such an issue is because Salford in particular have failed to provide the revenue that I suspect they projected. It’s not Peels fault that Salford can’t fill the stadium that was built for them. I think we could and although it’s not ideal we’d probably do ok.
I think at this point I better give some idea of what I think our potential is.
Playing from a modernised BV with a team up to the cap on a good year I reckon we could average 8-9k. Not top end but sustainable. However we do have certain advantages that if e are canny we can exploit to offset the bigger clubs.
One, we are in the hot bed of the game and need to exploit the local areas playing potential far more, 8-9k would allow that. Two, we also have a strong local business community who I think have become far more receptive to the club in recent years. Three we are a one team one sport city, football is not a real threat since summer rugby and again we can exploit this and grow.
We only need to make a modest improvement to move a long way forward. A half decent stadium and a few thousand more through the gate and we are there. Hell we are almost competitive now relatively speaking, I honestly believe it wouldn’t take much.

Oh I do love it
The first sign that Huddersfield have started the season well with two away wins, at teams predicted to do well by the pundits, is when in a week that we are not playing them Shudds becomes a topic on the ‘pussycats’ board.
No doubt bothered that you will be sharing the bottom of the table with your bigger brother the Wolfpack, following Sunday’s anticipated mauling by the rampant Wolves of Warrington, your eyes turn to us your ever easy target to have a good whinge at!!
Lucky!! Not fair !! A benefactor should put his money in to more deserving causes, Bradford ?? You ?? or Castleford give it a break fellas
The stadium ?? Town and us sold our Stadia to move into the new one. Okay we only bought 20% but had Ken not bailed out HTFC and set up the stadium as a separate company there would be no HTFC and no Stadium.
Lucky ?? maybe but Ken did it all for his late wife a long time Giants supporter then got the bug.
After this coming Friday you could be level on points with us or six points behind, if it’s the later I would expect more mention of the fact that our taxi only took 363 fans to Salford or Hull KR.
Unlike your fans I don’t bitterly wish relegation on Trinity, far from it I’m old enough to remember Wembley 1962 and the Championship final the same year and in the old days all the great local derbies that were around.
I’d far rather come to Belle Vue than fly to Toronto and it would be great if Fev replace them next year for me.
So cut out the bitterness and good luck for the season.
PS My taxi has been to Belle Vue already this season ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

Strange isn’t it that our 363 (Salford’s figure not mine) who travelled through the very gridlocked M60/M62, get focused on when there were barely a 1,000 locals supporting the home team.
Oh on their last visit to Huddersfield there were 282 Wakefield fans (clubs figures not mine) so maybe we share the same taxi on alternate weekends.
And Mr Wollongong Wollo Wollo if memory serves me right you were one of the ones who said you would never travel to Shudds, glass houses and all that....

The issues regarding Hudds and Salford and indeed our own lack of support is hardly based on the traffic conditions for one game, get real.
It’s way deeper than that! If your happy with your level of support fine but I wouldn’t be. I’m not happy with our own either I was just pointing out that you’ve had more breaks than us, or is that not true?
If you don’t want Ken I’m sure MC would love to invite him and his money to Wakefield.
PS. Well done to your winning start to the season, wish we were where you are, so hardly bitter.

As I said I bear Trinity no malice I’m just p****d off with this crowd thing, no club is happy with their crowds they were far bigger in the old days due to regular local derbies.
On Bank Holidays we used to do say Warrington v Widnes early kick off, Huddersfield v whoever at 3pm and a floodlit match at 7.30pm say Swinton v Salford all with decent crowds.
Friday away nights after a weeks work aren’t easy and I wouldn’t point fingers at people that choose to watch the game on TV it’s just As an ‘oldie’ I will always prefer live...

I still am, although not entirely true. I have visited with free tickets when I did the Rooney Walk (contributed to the cause instead) and also for cup games when gate is shared. Been to all Magics bar Liverpool, 3 perpignans and many Londons so entirely based on where my money ends up rather than travel issues.

When exactly did Hudd-Sheff simply revert to Huddersfield ?
There are many sceptics who think that you never were Hudd=-Sheff and that your club simply stole Sheffield's spot in SL
Maybe if ou can show where the merge took place and then was formally scrapped, we could stop calling you Shudds ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

| Sorry. I agree with Fartown on this one. No need to pick Huddersfield up on the crowd. We aren't playing them, so why put it on our board. By all means raise it on theirs or Salford's.
The one thing I will say about the Giants fans (and I have no love for the team specifically) is that when they have a really small crowd, what I see is a small group of hardy supporters that travel even though they know they are in small number and probably going to be ridiculed for it. I've been there. Wakefield actually have good travelling support these days but it hasn't always been the case.
So by all means complain about the other people in Huddersfield who don't support the team, but the guys that turn up deserve some respect to be honest.
Still want to send them home miserable from Belle Vue but that's a different thing altogether.

Merged with Sheffield Eagles 23rd December 1999 and on 8th January 2001 we reverted from Huddersfield -Sheffield Giants Ltd to Huddersfield Giants Ltd just google Huddersfield Giants and check the listings from Companies House.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats was dissolved on 28th October 2014 and the current Wakefield Trinity Ltd set up on 23rd August 2017.
Huddersfield’s registered office is John Smiths Stadium Huddersfield
Wakefields Flat One Allanadale Court Waterpark Road Salford
Is that enough ??
