| If there is any sort consistency within the rfl disciplinary system ,then Charnley(for touching the referee) and Tauti (dubious tackle on Culbertson) should be facing grade C charges.
Better make sure Scully and Fielden are on duty for the referral panel me thinks.

| I've posted something similar myself re Charnley. If that was Hock or Bailey it would 100% be a ban. It'll be interesting to see, a week before they play Saints and 2 weeks before a semi, if they have the balls to ban him.

| I reckon Charnley will get off with a warning whilst Tonto will be on a 2 match charge, then SOL will provide a character reference on the appeal ending with a 1 match ban so he can play in the semi final.

| I don't think Charnley will be up for a grade C.
This whole thing about who was on the panel is a total non story. Fielden wasn't on the panel - the RFL and the man himself have confirmed this. And Sculthorpe played 39 games for Wakefield so he's hardly Wigan through and through is he.
EDIT: Pretty sure Mitch Allgood got a grade B at magic for touching the ref.

| I can't remember the circumstances of the Mitch Allgood one but people shouldn't compare the Charnley incident to that of Hock, who knocked the ref flying.
If it's similar to Allgood then a similar punishment. I'd be looking at a 1 game ban. Though I'd prefer the ref to have sorted it at the game with a sin binning.
The Tautai tackle is exactly the sort of tackle we need eliminating from the sport. It's neither tough nor necessary. Unfortunately there were a couple of other similar tackles in the game too.

| Tautai must be up before the disciplinary, the hit had one intention, to injure the player and has to be stamped out. Wigan have consistently employed this tactic since Maguires days and it cannot be ignore. Just because Cuthbertson wasn't injured should make no difference at all. Whilst Charnleys wasnt the worst in the world it was identical to Baileys and he got 4 games. If they want to remain credible the RFL have to apply the rules consistently. (They wont)

I thought Bailey pushed Silverwood out of the way when in defence? Now I can fully understand the urge to shove Richard Silverwood, and I'm willing to accept a certain amount of mitigation if Bailey didn't see him in the way until late but we do have to protect referees. If it's the right incident I'm thinking of Charnleys was nothing like Bailey's.

How consistent is consistently? IIRC we've only ever had one player banned for it and that was Jeff Lima (vs. Leeds) about 6 years ago.
Hoping you can enlighten us on anymore Wigan players banned or warned for this kind of tackle compared to other teams.

| I think charnley will get 5 games.
But it will go down to 4 on an EGP.
Then it will be negotiated down to 3 on account of his clean record.
Then it will be pleaded down to 2 on account of a glowing character reference from John Bateman.
Then former wigan players danny sculthorpe and Stuart fielden will overrule the 1 game and he'll be free to play.

| Why let the truth get in the way of a conspiracy theory!
Still, it's out on social media the two ex Wigan players were on the panel so it must be true .....
SoL isn't the first person to have had a decision given lower than the grading but by the reaction here it seems like most people believe it's the first time it's ever happened.

Quite correct, but only just recently this happened also :Wigan pair Josh Charnley and Joel Tomkins have been cleared by the Rugby Football League's match review panel of a dangerous throw they have been told they will face no further action after admitting the grade A offence.
I seem to remember a bad high shot by Matty Bowen on a HKR player just before a WCC match that he got away with.Just seems there is a pattern with Wigan and lenient disciplinary decisions.

| I'd put my house on you finding similar scenarios for all the clubs if you actually wanted to put the effort. But that would get in the way of your "The RFL loves Wigan" sob story.
I'll give you a clue. Ben Westwood getting 1 match for deliberately punching a prone Blake Green and breaking his cheekbone. Not a single punishment for a crusher tackle on Tony CLubb forcing him to have neck surgery and miss more games than Annikin. Scott Moore (yes, the RFL's favourite no less!) got charged with a Grade A for punching a Widnes player but got no ban. Logan Tomkins was charged with a Grade C, got one match, as was Atkins at Warrington. These four examples took me less than 10 seconds to remember and without google. I happened to find the weeks disciplinary you were referring to and found that Hemel Stags, London, Dewsbury and Catalans all had played plead guilty to a grade A charge and get no ban.

| I'm perfectly willing to accept the complaints of inconsistencies in the disciplinary decisions but there is absolutely nothing to the "RFL favours/hates [insert random club name" stuff. It's just daft.
As I said I'm willing to accept the complaints about inconsistencies and I think individual players can end up under more scrutiny by both referees and the disciplinary but it certainly isn't a club thing.

Hock got 5 games for grabbing a refs arm in 2008
SUMMARY OF CM'S SUBMISSIONS ON THE CHARGE / EVIDENCE:
Player disputes decision of referee and in the process of doing so grabs hold of / places his hand on the referee’s arm. Starting point has to be that any physical contact with the referee is absolutely unacceptable; however minimal as it is imperative that the referee feels safe and protected on the field of play. However, the panel did take account of the nature of the contact and reflected this is the grading of the charge as an E grade offence rather than an F. In addition to being a breach of the Laws of the Game, the Player’s actions were also a breach of the RFL’s Respect Policy.
- See more at: www.rugby-league.com/the_rfl/dis ... #advSearch
he was banned for another 4 in 2013 for accidental but avoidable contact with the referee but that was in the CC so the report doesnt seem to be there.
then he was banned again for crashing in to Thomason
Brent Webb was fined £300 for touching Silverwood and found guilty, even though they accepted he didnt push or grab him on the basis of [iThe committee believe this is a case of strict liability. This means that regardless of the circumstances any deliberate touching of a referee is an offence and therefore the committee find Mr Webb guilty of this offence. - See more at: www.rugby-league.com/the_rfl/dis ... #advSearch[/i
For Consistency, and going by what the RFL have said before, if you touch the ref, you are guilty. No ifs buts or maybes. If you do it aggressively you get a few games ban.

Just a small point of order regarding Sculthorpe.
He didn't exactly leave Wakefield on good terms and if he were ever asked to swear allegiance to any club, it wouldn't be Wakefield, in fact, he'd probably happy not to help them in any way whatsoever. Not that that scenario would ever come about

| These threads are hillarious. In Kevin Keegan style I'd love it if we win something this year simply because of the amount of people who'd be sat crying in to their bitter.
Both will probably be banned for at least this week and possibly the semi final. If they are we'll just crack on as we have all year.
Enjoy the thrill if it comes off chaps.

I hope they both get banned but it's nothing to do with me being bitter mate.
They both deserve a ban and it would be an extraordinary display of weakness if the RFL don't see this through.
They have a record of bottling it prior to big matches and it's always been something that frustrates me. Regardless of the team involved I really hope they don't back down this time.
