I'll say what I've said before about Origin: if every game of rugby league was like that, I'd soon lose interest in the sport. Typical dull arm-wrestle.

I was annoyed to be working and couldn't watch but when I looked at the result I thought that is a couple of hours of my life that ive enjoyed more being a caretaker hahaha

Your lucky, I started watching on premier player tonight, thought it might get better in the second half I was wrong. If that is the style of play the Ausies aspire to then how are we suposed to spread this game to new fans or even keep them? it was boring not even a punch up to get us going.

It was very dull because the defence of each side was too good.

It's just Origin, though. I watched the Cowboys/Broncos the other night, and although just as intensive a game, it was a quality contest and a much better watch.

Viewership for Game 1 broke all records before it, with an average of 3.951 million sets tuned in to coverage of Queensland's narrow 6-4 win over New South Wales.

Numbers peaked at one point during the night with 4.423 million the highest recorded figure across the five metropolitan cities and regional viewing areas all combined. Metro numbers themselves were impressive with an average of 2.708 million tuning in across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Nine's match coverage seemingly only beat itself - the next best rating programs on Wednesday night were the pre-match program (2.345 million nationally) and the post-match wrap up (1.072 million).

What a terrible game of rugby that was. Were there any offloads? Was there anything other than the first man crash-ball, five times, then a kick? It was a tedious watch.

Origin is too safety first and percentages RL these days. It sometimes seems both sides have almost too much respect for each other. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate good defence but with the high array of Attacking talent on the pitch it would be nice to see a few more risks taken with ball in hand in order to create the space for the big guns to fire.

Nobody was willing to chance their arm. Typical first game. Nsw will have to in next game so should be a more open game

Agree, I have seen some good games in te NRL & although the skill of the players is not in dispute I just feel that they have any fun, inspiration & spontinaity coached out of them. For all its faults the semi pro days had an air of uncertanty about most games as you had not much idea of what you would face in the team facing you. No endless video sessions. Just a couple of nights a week training & concentrating on what you were going to do. Yes they have good tv ratings but that just shows what drivel they are served up on tv in Australia.

Safe to say that with the players involved, they very much had a clue in attack; I guess they were coached for safety first, high percentage plays and not encouraged to show endeavour with the ball - which made for an extremely dull affair.

As a New South Welshman, I have an emotional attachment to the game - therefore I was absolutely enthralled in the game for all 80 mins, and it was far from dull - but I can understand that a neutral may have found it dull - If you're not too bothered about the result, generally people prefer to see open, attacking rugby.... Personally, I really enjoy a slugfest....
