Benjamin Barba won the Dally M in 2012. But he lost form the following year, allegedly because he wanted to go back "home" to Queensland (he hails from central Queensland). But at Brisbane he was competing with Joshua Hoffman for the full back spot, and the coach decided to play him at five eighth. But he still failed to reproduce his 2012 form.

Incoming Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett wants his de facto son Darius Boyd to return to Brisbane as full back. Super star to be, Anthony Milford, was bought to play at no. 6.

That left Brisbane with Joshua Hoffman and Benjamin Barba as surplus to requirements.

In simple terms, if nobody in the NRL wants him, it doesnt matter how much he WAS getting. Anybody in SL could offer him a deal worth more than being unemployed.

Not that good, and the definition of a 1 season wonder. Once his game was figured out (and he was done stropping in Canterbury) he was never the same.

500k aud is around 270k in real money, and I'd be surprised if any of the big clubs have that left over at this point. Does anyone in SL even need a fullback at this point?

Our cub could just about afford him (not at his NRL wages) & we could use him but what is the point if he comes good he will be of back down under or the pies or saints will get him the season after.

The Pies gave his two playing positions (1 and 6), covered for the foreseeable future. I don't know about Saints though.

I think Barba would regain his 2012 form in Super League because there is more unstructured play in the English game. He thrives on unstructured play.

And I think you're right. Most likely be used as an impact 9 off the bench next season. I love the lad though, great attitude and a star in the making. Great players as Chase and Dobson are, Theo should be the fulcrum of Salford for years to come (if he fulfils his undoubted potential).

There is a man with great ambition!

When he is on his game, he's a great broken-field player. His structured play has developed since he has been with the Broncos but we saw much less individual brilliance.

He would be a good investment for any side IF you could keep him away from:
- the grog,
- pokies,
- ponies,
- other players' wives (allegedly), and
- the aptly named "Epic Bender Crew".

Then if you could deal with his depression, homesickness and tendency to go walkabout you might get him back to his 2012 form"
