Apart from a few errors, a pretty good effort nonetheless. Keep up the good work each and every round! I look forward to them in due course
It's worth bearing in mind that opening round attendances are often higher than usual due to fans enthusiasm for the start of a new season.
Will the RFL be boasting about the Round 1 attendances? If they do, then I expect them to compare Round 1 SL attendances with last year instead (as opposed to comparing the same fixtures) in order that they can boast an even more impressive 11.42% increase on last season's Round 1 attendances... 71,744 compared to 64,387.
Very impressive Championship attendances today. The fans of current Championship clubs are clearly enthused by the prospect of P&R returning and the re-establishment of meaningful fixtures as their appetite for the game returns.

| Nice to see the thread back, well done JonB95, enjoy basking in the warm glow because if the weekly attendances go the other way get ready for plenty of stick from the rose tinted brigade.
Nice to see a little cameo from Billy, just a shame he was scared off by them pesky dictatorial mods .
Good start to the season that, I’m sure the weather played no small part, but with Salford’s re-branding & the new stand at HKR I’m not surprised with those increases.
After everything that’s gone on at Bradford that’s a good crowd too.

Difficult to judge whether it was a good crowd at Bradford or not.
Better than last season's attendance against Cas... 8,214 compared to 7,724... but they didn't play Cas at home in Round 1 last season... they played Wakey at home in Round 1 last season and the attendance was 10,263. We all know that Round 1 attendances are often higher than usual because fans are excited by the start of a new season.
That 10,263 attendance turned out to be Bradford's 2nd highest home attendance of 2013 (only the attendance against Leeds was higher... 12,016). If today's 8,214 attendance turns out to be their 2nd highest home attendance in 2014, they are in even bigger trouble than they already are... if that's possible.

| Most promising attendance is the Salford one in my opinion, usually when Salford draw a good crowd they put in a poor show...but today they got a win, and you'd hope those fans will return.

What a contrived, if-my-aunty-had-balls load of piffle.
Why would our crowd v. Cas today be expected to be our 2nd highest home attendance? Did you get Cas and Wakey mixed up in your urge to be negative? If we got 10263 for Wakey last time then it obviously won't drop by 2K this season. The more pressing issue for Bulls fans is whether we'll still exist, and whether we'll be able to fulfil the fixture.
Quote We all know that Round 1 attendances are often higher than usual because fans are excited by the start of a new season.'"
Never has there been such a dispirited and fecked off feeling lurching into the new season. Bulls fans excited? Most years you'd be right. This year - we have only foreboding, dread of the next announcement and concern for the thin and lightweight squad which seems as dangerously precarious as our finances.

Last year's Wigan v Hudds game saw the North stand given out to Heinz, as well as a cheap tickets 'Groupon' offer that boosted the crowd.

Expected? I'm quite sure I said "if" it turns out to be Bradford's 2nd highest attendance, though given the pervading sense of disillusionment among Bulls fans, 8,214 could well end up being their 2nd highest of the season.
Attendances at opening games of the season are often among the highest recorded by clubs due to the enthusiasm and hype surrounding the beginning of a brand new season. Bradford's opening home attendance today was their lowest ever during the entire Super League era and the only occasion they've not posted a five figure gate.
2014 v Castleford 8,214

Bradford's home attendances against Wakefield were as low as 7,437 in 2010 and 8,387 in 2009, therefore surely it's within the realms of possibility the attendance in 2014 could drop by at least 2K? Particularly so given the recent ring-fencing of clinical depression among Bulls fans?

| anyone else as excited as I am about the new stadium/new era crowd increases at HKR and Salford? Interested in Salford's as the year progresses, much will depend on whether they do look like top 8 contenders as they go along.
HKR, should see more away fans turning up, depending what the team offer on the field might result in less home fans though to cancel it out a bit.
Interesting ones really are Huddersfield, became proper contenders last year and have started this year beating the champions and start this as contenders instead of the previous few years of "start well but tail off" pretenders.
Also Saints, they got their new stadium and had the new stadium effect but then followed it up with their poorest ever SL campaign. A lot fancy them this year though and they've gotten of to a great start, the crowd I think will reflect this if they keep it up.
As I've said before, crowds should be judged on a club-to-club basis, not a full league basis.

Certainly. If this carries on we could see 2 record breaking seasons of attendances in 3 years. Neither with promotion to SL.
Leigh and Featherstone proving SL promotion doesnt need to be on the line.

Don't you realise that Championship clubs are striving to do well enough this season to put themselves in with a chance of getting in the middle 8 next season? That chance, created by the recent agreement to introduce the 2x12; 3x8 structure from next season, has led to a 40% increase in opening day attendances at Championship matches this weekend.

thats almost as big a stretch as Little Rich claiming the great tv viewing figures for the Wigan V Hudds game was because there was relegation from SL this year.

i.e. This season, Championship clubs' first objective is to avoid ending up one of the bottom five teams that will be relegated. Makes all the matches meaningful for the first time in many seasons.
