Far beyond anything Ray French has ever said or will say, that comment is a far bigger embarrassment to the sport as an indication of the low level that some people will stoop to. I'm sure your elders proud of what you have become.

Ray French is terrible, "ohhhh, a penalty!", Noble - "no Ray, it's a knock on". Can't believe they wheel him out every year, my guess is he hasn't had a pay rise since 1960 so the beeb are reluctant to get rid

Back on topic, it's surely down to the BBC to pick and choose their broadcast team. There is a range of choice as the Beeb already have several RL commentators who cover RL on BBC Humber, BBC Leeds, BBC Manchester, BBC Merseyside (but French is half the team here).

Also there are plenty of footy commentators who can do coverage of the CC as it's in the footy offseason. Either way I'm assuming they don't get complaints or requests for a change on a regular basis.

I doubt French has a hold over the corporation, it's probably just a case of the RL team, tend have been doing it for so long they are probably all quite friendly with each other.
