| I would be surprised if they were pushing the WC just before the exiles game. They were giving updates pretty frequently until easter but then they started pushing MM. Whenever you get so little coverage I guess you have to pick what you promote and when.

| I struggled getting the tickets I wanted for all of the big 3 matches on the bottom tiers. It looks promising that so many extra blocks have been opened up at Cardiff and that the vast majority of the stadium for the final is already open.
What would people deem a success for those 3 games?

Nothing but a sell out. It's a world cup final and double headed semi.

| They do seem to be opening more seats for the opening game which is great news. I really struggled to get 5 tickets for the final, had to go for the £50 ones, really wanted the £30 ones but couldn't get ANY.
For me a success would be 50k for opening ceremony, 60k for Semi and sell-out for final. Plus all the smaller games well attended.
Some fans will complain if every single seat for the tournament isn't sold.

I believe that there are about 550k tickets available for the tournament. Semis (90) opener (75) and final (75) represent 44% if the available seats for 18% of the games....if the 3 above sell out and the rest get 50% capacity sold, then that's 345k sold and 63% capacity sold and an increase of 50k on 2008.
Anything less than that will be a real disappointment....

I agree that the final must sell out and by the looks of things, it will.
As for the semi it's a tough one. The stadium holds 90k but we'll have 75k to shift when you take in to account club Wembley. Is that possible? I'd like to think so but we'll need people in the heartlands to get off their backsides. In the 2011 four nations game at Wembley, the amount of tickets sold in the heartlands was pretty poor by all accounts. We can't afford for that to be the case again.
I'd be happy with 70k at Wembley, a full house at Old Trafford and 60k at Cardiff I think.

the big games seem to be selling well, but the way we haven't sold out even the bottom tiers of the KC and John Smith's for the other England games is a concern.
Judging by the above I would guestimate that there are only 15k's worth of tickets currently on sale at each ground, we've got to at least sell out the bottom tiers (20K+) for it look good on TV.

I think those games will sell a lot more closer to the time. I'm wanting to go to the Ireland game, but in no rush to buy the tickets and think a lot of other fans will think the same.

| I've only bought tickets to the big three games at the moment and I'd expect a lot of people will be in the same boat.
The focus has to be on Cardiff IMO. If we can get a good crowd there that could set the tournament right up, if England pulled off a win against the Aussies I think we'll have a record breaking competition in terms off attendances.

| Concerned that the cheapest price that I can find 2 tickets for the opening game is in the £40 ticket section. Whilst I should be happy that this means all lower priced tickets have sold out I have no faith in the RL ticketing process, as I believe that tickets are sitting at clubs / outlets and aren't showing up on the website. Hence I feel that it's likely that if I buy the £40 tickets now the returns will go back on sale closer to the event. So, for now I'm not buying.

| there is a clear need to sell this competition for the health of the game and the profile it could provide in the media - were it a success.
i suspect that a lot of people are waiting to buy tickets, news flow is vital to encourage more sales
silence breeds scepticism

All of the tickets are being sold from a central website so there's no risk of the scenario you suggested. However, that's not to say that RLWC have necessarily released all tickets in all sections.

| It's great news in a sense that cheaper tickets aren't available but with plenty of cheaper sections greyed out on the seat map they surely most open up some more soon.
I'd rather have 60k there with some gaps in the middle sections then 50k there but with just the visable tv areas full.
Lets be positive and get some more areas opened.

True but not everyone will want to sit on the top tier. I got 8 tickets a few weeks back and could only get £30 ones on the bottom tier about 10 rows from the front which isn't ideal but i'd rather be down where the atmosphere is.
There's a few blocks behind the posts in that end of the stadium that 's 2 tiers instead of 3 they could open up yet and hopefully will.

Not been to the Millennium since our 2005 cup win, so my memory is a bit fuzzy! but IIRC the smaller stand behind the posts has a separate concourse to the rest of the stadium, and this may be why they are keeping it closed for now. Also I'd imagine they will fill that area with sponsor banners/World Cup logo's to cover up some of the empty seats if it doesn't sell out.

| Just slightly off-topic, but i caught the highlights of NZ V.S Aus cricket match in the ICC trophy and noticed there were a lot of empty seats. Wonder if anyone is concerned about the health of cricket
If the RL world cup has even one game that has some empty seats, i'm sure these message boards will be full of some "fans" gleefully telling everyone international RL is pointless, no one is interested and it is dead.

1. Cricket is as ed up as League is....many people are concerned about its current state.
2. A pair of teams playing 12,000 miles away from home on a Wednesday is hardly the same as fears of 50,000 empty seats at an England HOME game on a Saturday.
Nobody "wants" the RLWC to fail......but anyone who dares question the activities and marketing thus far is seemingly a gleeful naysayer in waiting
500,000+ tickets on sale......if they'd sold half of them we'd have been told......if they'd sold 200,000 of them we'd have been told........all we have been told is that they shifted a few corporate and group sales, half sold out the final and 1,500 family tickets on a cash back scheme were sold to London and St Albans yoof RL.........
I am aware that some posters on here say they are "waiting to see what their mates are doing"......I'd suggest that in reality, they are waiting for the "offers" to start...like the recent Ireland + Exiles offer.
