| A really good game at Huddersfield ,
A good crowd
A sponsored competition
Intensity brought about by the importance of the result
Very enjoyable and far better than any SL game that I have seen this season

| Reason it was so good was because they was something to play for , unlike the dilute SL we have now.

| Far better game than the average Super League encounter.
I reckon they do something more traditional with the Super League fixtures to give them more meaning. I think the losers of Super League games should be forced to fight lions on the field, whilst their supporters cheer on the lion. It's been done before in sport, particularly in Italy.

| Its amazing what can be achieved when the game is marketed properly (by the clubs) and you have 2 quality teams on show. I don't buy this "there's something to play for" argument. The mosre games we have involving teams of the required standard the better the product, and the crowds will be. For example in the last round Leeds played Cas in the last round on the CC, and many people thought it would be Chse's last game for Cas yet it only managed to attract just over 8,000. Now was tat because the game "didn't matter" or because the fans weren't expeecting a decent game between 2 good sides?

| its just the negativity which catches on, 1 fan moans about it then 2 will moan and all of a sudden its becomes fashionable to moan about everything rugby league. Never mind that at the moment there seems to be more exciting youngsters coming through teams than i can remember at any other time. Back to the cup its a good competition and the big teams that get knocked out just say "o'well its only the challenge cup".
over in Aus the commentators are warned about complaining about the ref or the standard of the a match, they are told to be positive about the game unlike stevo and eddie who study each play to try and find a negative and complain about a ref call.

I have to say I thought the BBC's coverage today was good. It was good to see a comentary team with a bit of knowlege about the modern game.

yeah i thought that to, they didn't drone on about a slightly high tackle or the speed of the ruck. And no horrible out of date catch phrases.

| for me stevo is so passionate about rugby league i wouldn't want him lost to the game but he is so negative in commentary he shouldn't be a lead anchor man for sky. it was a fantastic game with a good intensity and moments of controversy but thats what makes a game special.

Trouble is that 11000 @ Ā£8 is less admission income than getting 5000 @ Ā£20. I thought given the low admission price the attendance was still quite poor.

What has the crowd gotta do with it being Chase' last game or not? It aint going to make more Leeds fans turn up to HQ to watch. Ultimately 8k in the rd round of the cup aint a disaster at full price, and furthermore, Leeds probably made more revenue from that game then Hudds did today with their Ā£8 buy in. I always have loved the challenge cup and it does rile me when people dismiss it. Gotta say, very disappointing that sky haven't selected a game either round.

| I know some people are going to shoot me down for this, but how is that a good crowd considering the price and quality of the teams? It makes you worry what kind of crowd you would get if the tickets were full price.

Great maths. You do realise that 11000 people will spend more money at the stadium than 5000 don't you?
It was a brilliant game apart from costing me a fortune on sky bet. I enjoyed the Hull KR v Saints game too the other week, maybe the cup has re emerged.

Maybe that's because in Oz the TV companies are competing for coverage. If they are too negative, then it could effect them getting TV rights.
Here we know SKY are getting the SL and BBC the CC. So commentators are free to be negative.
However, SKY do put fake positives on RL, every game is the greatest ever, and the league just gets better and better. That's the mantra, it's just when it comes down to the commentary, the negative always seams to come out of Stevo. Rather than it's a great try, it's poor defense.

And in this he is doing what he usually does: stating the obvious. By its nature, a try scored means that the defence hasn't been as good as needed otherwise the try would not have been scored! However, as you say, he invariably fails to mention the skill involved in fooling the defence or getting round it/over it or whatever it has taken to break the defensive line.
I agree with those who have said that the BBC commentary was very good yesterday, as was the discussion on the red button show. The BBC has come a long way in the last few years and now I prefer their set up to that of Sky. Sky come across as dated and dumbed down. They need a complete refresh but I don't think they view our sport as important enough anymore to do a refresh.

You do realise that the Giants don't own the Stadium or concession stands, and wont make much match day revenue in the form of food and drink, etc.

| Yawn, so people would rather see a 25,000 seat stadium with 5,000 rattling about live on BBC - yep, that would be perfect publicity in World Cup year.

| It was a great crowd and yes it needed a big marketing push and cheap tickets to do it, but it was great to be there and I'm sure it looked better for the cameras too. It felt like a semi final, with great support from both teams. Proper cup rugby, do or die performances.
Is it the re-emergence of the cup? Not yet, but if all those left in the cup push the competition in a similar way to Huddersfield and Leeds then maybe it could be the start of something.
