| No it's still a joke. He's hardly likely to come out and say actually Salford stood no chance of getting him.
Morley was a realistic aim being a Salford lad and coming to the end of his career. Tomkins was just laughable.

Why is it a joke! Yes maybe Tompkins coming to us was never going to happen but it doesn't mean he was having a laugh he really wanted him, this guy is brand new to RL he doesn't know about the BIG DIVIDE between bottom an top clubs he just knew Sam was one of the games best players and wanted to sign him, and I can assure you it would of been a record fee. The guy is seriously loaded and is prepared to spend until we're on level terms with the big boys.

I spoke with someone 'on the inside' at Salford on Tuesday night, I was having a chuckle about the bid for Tomkins. He assures me it was a deadly serious offer, despite the chances of Wigan releasing him obviously being slim.
Also tells me there are some very seriously determined and ambitious people behind Koukash and his equally serious cash, people who don't generally take no for an answer or consider failure an option, and that we can expect very big things from them.
Bet they've never taken anything like Salford on before though.

I wouldn't call it a bluff. If Koukash stays for the next few years, Salford will become one of the big boys. At the moment they will probably struggle to attract the top players from the likes of Leeds, Warrington, Wigan, just because they are challenging the silverware and play in front of big crowds. Although if Salford start having some success, they will attract the crowds.
But i'd say the teams outside of the top four, the opportunity for a move to Salford would seem very appealing. They will get paid big money, and joining a team that is moving one way, up.

If, as Cronus suggests, that it was a deadly serious offer then that's more worrying than if it were a joke bid. If Reading were taken over by a super rich owner no-one would take them seriously if they made a bid for Lionel Messi.
As I said, spending money on big players like Morley is one thing, bidding for Tomkins is just embarrassing.

| I have no doubt Mr K would have signed the cheque , I expect him to need a new book for next year , But realistically he might need to go for the ' B ' option for a year or 2 until he will entice the truly ' A ' grade stars , as I said , emulating what Blackburn and Man City had to do to get to the top
It should make for an interesting few years , enjoy it you SCR fans , and it is also partly your responsibility to help by dragging all you can down to Barton to support him

Why is it a joke? If Salford offer a £50k a year pay rise to Tomkins is he definitely going to ignore it? If they need to shell out a decent transfer fee are Wigan definitely going to say no? Especially considering there is a decent chance of it being a few hundred thousand now, or nothing in a year or two?
There is a huge difference between Tomkins and Messi. Messi already gets enough to make him richer than he could have ever imagined Tomkins doesnt. The relative differences in wages in RL means that even a moderately ambitious owner, with a moderately fortune could tempt pretty much any player they wished to pretty much any side. £100k to a Koukash, Lenegan, Caddick or Moran is pocket money. £100k extra to pretty much any RL player would be life changing.
The only thing which stops Salford being the Man City of RL is the Salary Cap. This is the perfect example of why we should look at having some form of marquee allowance so that if Dr Koukash wants a Sam Tomkins to show his intentions and kick off some momentum he can.

| It's almost nailed on that Sam will be leaving Wigan at the end of the season.
And why is he leaving ?
MUNNEEE !
I don't blame him, as a career is very short in sport.
So if Salford were offering more 'munnnee', then it could have come off.
Salford will prise some clubs of their stars for sure.
Money talks.
Marwan wants to spend.
Lenegan wants to save.
Lenegan is lucky that in Wigan, which has a culture for rugby league that there will be a flow of players; just as Texas has a history of producing oil in the USA.
As a Wigan fan, I am unsure of Lenegans cost cutting policies in his jurisdiction..
As well as his links with London Broncos and Oxford United, where his 'policies' are similar to Wigan RLFC.
I hope Lenagan has cut his ties with the London Broncos, who's fans didn't like him apparently, but he should not be allowed to also be the owner of another sporting entity such as Oxford United.

The day Ian Lenegan was told by the RFL to sever ties with Harlequins RL was the day that Londons SL team started to die......London fans don't dislike IL, we resent the fact that he promised to make things better, but then had his head turned by his home town club. We don't blame him...who would reject the chance to own your home town club?
On the topic of multi-entity ownership, It is my belief that the RFL were short sighted in their decision.
It would have been quite simple to police both clubs behaviour if, as he had wanted, he had remained an investor at Quins RL. Melbourne storm and Brisbane Broncos share the same majority shareholders......doesn't seem to have done the NRL any harm...even when News took over at the Nth Queensland Cowboys as well
As for him owning Oxford....that's nothing to do with the RFL.
Back on thread....this investment is welcome, but London Broncos have been receiving 1.5 million a year since 2007 from a benefactor and achieved no success on or off the pitch other than the development of a decent pipeline of juniors.....Money isn't always going to produce results...especially with the salary cap in place.

No. I'm sure a first-class businessman who has had numerous successes in business and sport will just go hammer-and-tongues at it. Not bothering to know the proper procedure and entering into everything blindly.
Honestly, do some people think before typing?

Sam will go at the end of the season I have no doubt. But he will go most probably to the NRL club. Where there is more money available than what even salford can throw at him due to S C restrictions. But somewhere that he will be playing infront of 2k fans for a home game...
I think it's great that DR k has bailed them out and giving them a lot of financial backing I really do. But they need to work on getting more people through the doors rather than just throwing wads of cash at any players that are willing to take it.
Salford could spend millions and have the 13 greatest RL players in the world. But if they are only there to make a quick buck and not really where they want to be, playing infront of 2000 people a week , are they going to get the best out of them?..
I hope they turn it around, and one more competitive team in sl can only be a good thing. But it will be embarrassing if they don't start getting more people in through the gates.

Do you seriously believe that if Salford got together a team that was competitive with Wigan, Leeds and Warrington the crowds would remain that low? I agree that it is a long term task to get the number of fans up to 10,000 and above on a regular basis, but sustained success will get the numbers up.

Well said that man! You show me a club whove been whipping boys for the past 30 years and get above what Salford are getting?
Simple answer is the public like to follow success and iff Salford are successful you'll be seeing a huge rise in attendances ill put my house on it!

| Huddersfield over the last 10 years have gradually grown into one of the big boys.
Wakefield are a regular mid tabled team and have never indured the thrashing in SL like Salford have.
