| Potential big hitter financial backers (I'm aware of two) are put off (to say the least) from backing one of our non-Super League clubs as, primarily, there is no automatic promotion/relegation, and, because of the Salary Cap nonsense, they can't put together a team that would be pretty sure of gaining promotion to Super League anyway.
Their next idea is to consider entering a team in another competition. The French domestic league, unfortunately, doesn't meet the required criteria and isn't a runner.
What about the NRL? The pros would be the profile, big home crowds and a potential TV deal independent of Sky eg BT Vision.
The implications would probably be a need for a group of players Australia based, another group UK based, and a further group (probably younger, single players) who would fly backwards and forwards between Aus and UK after each match.
Things up for negotiation would be whether:
a) the NRL would allow all the 'away' matches to be played in the first half of the season and all the 'home' matches in the second half of the season or
b) if a UK based NRL club could play ALL its matches (except play-off matches) in the UK if it contributed largely to the NRL clubs' travel & accomodation costs.

As ludicrous as the OP sounds, the NFL are seriously ready to start up a team in London!!!

Strange things are possible in these modern times!

| the NFL can afford it....plus they'll get 70-80k for every home game at wembley.....thats why they are serious about it...
as for a english team in the NRL........lol nah silly idea....
but.......with the number of englishmen in the NRL growing by the year at the very least i reckon we should have a "team england camp" set up down under that would get together during the season.... with a "team england" liaison officer.....someone like a mal reilly

you do know the NRL has both of these things don't you? Steve Mascord was suggesting Perth is considering putting a team in SL, which is equally as ludicrous!

The east coast of the US is a five hour flight. Additionally, the matches are played at a time that usually fits both time zones - 12:00/15:25 there equating to 18:00 and 21:25 (a little late) here.
However, I doubt a London team will happen. Not whilst there are locations such as Los Angeles, Mexico City, and the major Canadian cities also available for franchises.

| As far as I am aware, in its 115 year history top flight Australian Rugby League has never had promotion and relegation! Salary caps have also been around for a fair amount of time in various forms. I do hope the OP is fishing and not actually serious!

The more Englishmen we have down there the better. All the big opponents are down there internationally. We can have mid-season internationals over there at Origin time (3 test series against NZ or a PI select every year). We'd only need to send a few over to bolster numbers and not affect the SL.
The more England play the better. Mid season tests over here and there, plus end of season test series. Will really build up the England brand, and even international RL.

| This is the problem with freedom of speech. Trust someone who is for promotion and relegation to come up with this idea.
but...
An idea I had a few years back is not too much different. Why not have a team in the NRL that play in Australia owned by the RFL or SLE. You could have it in say Perth were there are not many juniors and use it to expose British players to the NRL for a few seasons before bringing their experence back home. A lot of our top players had sort spells out in the NRL Joynt and Connolly in the 90's are great examples. Both came back much better players. How good would Kallum Watkins, Leroy Cudjoe or Lee Mossop be if they had a couple of years on loan in the Superleague NRL team.
