The inclusion of Rhs Evans makes the argument for not having a GB side very weak. Here we have a player who could potentially be a superstar for Wales not wanting to play for them because he wants to play in the big tournaments. I presume the only way he qualifies for England is residency. (As far as i'm aware).

So the development of Welsh players provided a potential superstar for England.

I don't have a problem splitting England/Wales/Ireland/Scotland up for WC. But if we want to develop the smaller nations, they have to be represented by top players born & bred in that country. The only way to make sure the top players want to play for the smaller nations is by making sure they play regular big tournaments, and the only way to do that is by brining back GB & the ashes.

I'm sure players like Rhs Evans would represent Wale instead of England, if he was guranteed playing a big international tournament at the end of the yearfor GB. Unfortunately he won't do that playing for Wales.

Evans has an English mum and has lived in England since his early teens. I can see both sides of the argument, it's a tricky one. It'd certainly be nice to see a GB team return for "tours" down under.

Apologies, i didn't know he had an English mum. But he has a Welsh accent and you can see my argument, if we do unearth another potential superstar from Wales like Evans, they won't want to play for Wales anyway.

Home nations for world cups and a 5 nations tournament held throughout the season, GB for 4 nations and Tours.

Evans can play for Wales and doesnt have to miss out on the big tournaments. More players get to play international RL, and more international games.

I imagine if Evans doesn't make the final squad when it get's whittled down at the end of the season he'll find himself playing against England in a Wales shirt. I'm sure he'd rather do that than turn out for the England Knights, which sort of takes the p*ss out of the whole thing. I'm only speculating of course but it's a very possible scenario. I think that once you have declared your allegiance for a country, that should be it for your career

Also, I don't really see the point of resurrecting GB for tour purposes to accommodate the odd one or two players. It would be like when we decided to call GB, "GB and Ireland" because we picked Brian Carney. Unless it's truly representative of Great Britain (i.e. has an even spread of players from all four nations and not just English plus one or two from elsewhere) it's a bit silly. It was ok in the 90's when there were 5-6 Welsh RU converts in the team but it's a dated concept now

England (and the other home nations) have far more potential to grow as separate entities.

I'm Welsh and trust me when I say if i was ever good enough I would not play for England. Your national pride shouldn't be taken over by the desire to play for the auld enemy in a big competition
