| Following on from a thread a few weeks ago about sky viewing figures ang rugby league being second only to wendyball, has anyone noticed the ads for spring on sky sports don't even mention rugby league! Why?
Why would you not advertise your second highest viewing figure sport?  |

The OP is actually laying the foundations for another "the media hate us" thread.
Sky TV are part of the 2nd largest media organisation on ther planet and without their investment in TGG, rugby league would be an amateur local hobby. I trust their judgement as to what they put in their promotional adverts, rather than join in the massed northern chorus of "boo hoo it's not fair"
If push comes to shove, I'd guess that SKY don't see any benefit in pushing RL because it's reached its saturation level and got all the viewers they need for now. F1 on the other hand is new to SKY and therefore they will push that as a few petrol heads may be tempted to buy a dish....... |

Football, Greyhounds & Racing- Obviously
Then...
Cricket, Golf and Yawnion- Fair enough maybe

I repeat......commercial entities will make commercial decisions. In this case, SKY, a very very profitable company, have made a decision not to show RL.........

Compare it to the ITV sport advert. They are pretty much the same advert. Except sky put money into RL and ITV don't. It just doesn't make any sense. Friday 8pm and Saturday 6pm are prime time TV. What other channel doesn't promote the programmes they are showing at these times?  |

I am neither sarcastic, nor a loner. What I am is a realist, who lives in the real world, where Rugby League, whilst TGG, is not high on anyones agenda.
Over the last few months, the media's lack of coverage has appeared on these boards loads of times and regardless of the bitchwhining that follows, the fact remains that RL isn't important to most outlets. In the case of SKY, I repeat...........they pay for the rights to show SL on their channels......it really doesn't matter if they promote it or not and the OP and subsequent "hangers on" fail to grasp this FACT.

Seriously.....Sky are part of the second largest media organisation on the planet.....I think I'd trust their judgement before that of a whining RL fan with an obvious axe to grind. |

If you want to complain about the lack of advertising RL receives, the first organisations you should complain about (or dare I say it, [iat[/i) should be the RFL and your local club...? The best way to improve RL's commercial appeal is to get more people attending games (larger target audience for advertisers), and that starts at home with the clubs themselves IMO.

Exactly.....67,991 fans turned up to watch 7 Superleage games over the weekend.......The combined capacities of the 7 stadium is 135,000.....so about 50% full.
Sky TV and their Advertisers like games Like Spurs v United (37k) and City v Bolton (48k)......not Broncos v Huddersfield, 1,970!
Again....Sky are a commercial entity, they make decisions based on ROI and potential profits......If they chose not to Puch RL then that's their issue....... |
