| After watching that ref yesterday and remember Tony Archers inept performanace last year in the 4 nations its clear to me that the NRL refs are below Super League standard.

| Possibly because they have 2 refs on the pitch in the NRL and they are no longer used to being in sole charge

| Wouldn't say way behind but yesterdays officiating should earn the ref a few games out to reflect the poor performance. Some people are just looking the at the big calls but for me he was allowing the play of the ball to be slowed down a good portion of the time. For me we need a ref who doesn't officiate in the NRL as we will always have this sort of officiating. It's quite ironic after Mr Sheens was bleeting on about it all week and his team was guilty of this throughout the entire match. If we get to the final we need to say you have had an NRL ref now we get a superleague ref. Maybe having two ref in a match over their has made them lazy and less observant.

| The problem is with the NRL not the NZ refs, I have been down there and seen the set up and training they have in place
The problem is even if they are NRL registered officials unless they are based in Sydney they NZ based refs will not get NRL games

| Sadly there were a couple of glaring desicions that were repeated on 2 80' screens and on the telly box, it did look like the game got away from him for a 10 min period in the second half, but I have certainly seen worse
Did it cost us the game? NOPE lets stop blaming the bloke

It is a bit. Terrible misinformation thanks to modern technology once again. However I have seen him around in the NSW Cup this season gone and for years previous.
He's over there because he's a ref. He's a kiwi and he's officiated 3 NRL games as a ref. The other 10 times when he wasn't in NSW Cup he was a touch judge. And yes he was NZ ref of the year. For the reasons, mentioned in the earlier part of this paragraph.
Even Russell Smith officiates games as the video ref in the NRL.

So lets get this right. He's reffed 3 just 3 NRL games this past season and was a touch judge in 10 others?

Fair enough, maybe they should have given it to someone else but the RFL asked for a Australian and New Zealand ref to come over along with some touch judges.

| If England play Australia again Perenera will get the game, he is the only neutral ref available right? (the NRL providing two refs and the SL one ref is a shocking state of affairs)
The pressure will be reversed, it will be on the ref not to favour the Aussies again, so it could work out in our favour, a well timed comment or two in the press would help

Probably. That is of course if they choose to appoint a neutral ref. Perenara won't get a game this week though.

So, he is a less experienced ref and touch judge than James Child, who was running the line for him at Wembley! God help us!

So where is Mr Alibert? He has had a good season this year and have no idea why he is not on the ref panel?

| He is nowhere near experienced enough to ref at this level, but sadly he is the only NZ referee to officiate at a high level in the nrl!
He is part of the group of former players who were invited to take up refereeing free their playing days, he actually played a test match for NZ in 2001 and has only been in the middle for about 3 years!

The NRL are trying to do a lot of work with the polynesian community and get more into officialdom. They have a massive amount of players from polynesian heritage in various grades and leagues, including the NRL, yet they have no numbers to speak of in the ranks of officials. The employment in the NRL of Nigel Vagana a couple of years ago as education and welfare officer shows their intention.
