| Playoffs crowds are down, and Challenge Cup crowds too, because season ticket holders have to shell out again, when these games are free on TV.
How about when a fan goes to his club for a season ticket there is a one-off £25 one off extra payment. This applies for all fans from Wigan to Skolars. This £25 payment gets you into your own teams games for free, home or away and any game played on neutral venues for half price. Internationals included.
All of this money is put into a pot and clubs that make the playoffs and later rounds of the cups share it all out equally, with a percentage going to the international game too.
Just an idea to discuss, trying to think of a solution to a problem.

| I agree. Season ticket holders turn up to games feeling like it's a free night out, because it's paid for in advance.
Supporters then proceed to buy a programme, put a bet on, get a pint, something to eat and take part in the raffle/golden gamble - or at least something from the above. It makes sense to keep ticket prices low so that more money can be gained from the other income streams above.
Simply, the more people they have in the ground, the more money they'll make from residual income.

Except many clubs , probably up to 50 percent , don't receive any of those residual incomes any more
If your fan base won't pay to watch you in a match because you have been successful , when will they pay ?

But if it's the season ticket holders that don't turn up to these games, then the idea still holds water.

I've been thinking this for a while Jonny. Something needs to be done. Pop your idea in an email to nigel.wood@rfl.co.uk and see if you get a response.
I've also thought that season ticket holders should get half-price tickets to away games. I know we get a couple of quid knocked off but, especially in current times, a few quid discount isn't really going to encourage people to go.
I had an idea last year about World Cup games. I can see the games involving the 'minnows' of RL being played in front of crowds that would even embarrass Hunslet. So, offer a 'pass' that allows entry to all World Cup games that don't involve England/Aus/NZ for a £25/30 (or whatever is commercially viable) fee. I for one would certainly purchase it.

I've sent an email mate. I've also thought ahead of how to draw crowds to WC games, i'd definately buy a pass if there was one available. There's also a thought of each club 'adopting' a team, say Leigh adopt Tonga as we have had quite a few players from Tonga over the years and the team goes and meets people and schools from the town in the build up to the tournament.

| Sounds like what you're suggesting is something similar to the Club Wembley deal. If you could get the bones of it sorted, then I think it could be a great idea and would help grow the game.
After all, it'll be easier for the RFL to get additional and better sponsorship if they can show that RL events get huge crowds. And with better sponsorship comes a greater exposure of the game which opens it up for improved income streams at all levels of the game, more fans AND, possibly most importantly, more people playing the game.

| I'm a Leigh season ticket holder.
What I asked myself is 'would I pay an extra £25 for playoff/cup games as well as being able to go and watch some internationals at discount prices?'
Yes, easy, of course I would. But I didn't go away to Fev because it was on TV and money is tight.

It's a decent idea.
The concept is certainly viable, however I'd query it getting shared evenly as Wigan/Leeds etc would no doubt sell a hell of a lot more of the passes that Quins or Wakefield for instance.

| I cant quite see how this could work without either limits or ballots for some games.
Perhaps the best thing would be to trial it to a maximum of 1000 Fans per club. Id charge 40 quid on top of season tickets then split funds raised 50/50 with clubs and Super league Marketing budget.

| An excellent idea.
Do you mean the £25 is just for your own team or do you mean it to be used at any game in the Cup, Play offs, Intls. Not knocking the idea just not sure what you mean.
The idea is brilliant though.

| £30 – for all challenge cup matches to the fourth round?
£90 – for all the challenge cup matches leading up to the semi final?
Just think we’re trying to get new people in the stadium here. I’m sure that if they was one match at Odsal and another match at Headingley in the same weekend I’d go to both.
The RFL could sell these tickets and redistribute the money made from the sales back into the clubs that have taken part in the challenge cup.

| Regards the playoff format, i have an idea, a qualifying line, ie you need a minimum of set points, if 5 teams get over it 5 teams in the playoffs, if it's 6 or 7 they get in too, you have a couple of structures in place depending on how many teams get in.
My idea
is
[size=150[uTHE QUALIFYING LINE[/u[/size
Make of it what you will.

Amazing really that this was posted on Totalrl at 10.00 pm on Sunday!
" Quote
The RFL could perhaps ask each club to add say £20 to cost of adult season ticket and £5 to child with a view to giving that money to RFL in lieu of tickets for final series.
That would allow home team in playoff game a guaranteed ticket with say 25% reserved for away team on first come first served basis.
Not sure of total numbers of season ticket holders but using average of 4000 adults and 1000 per team that would mean extra revenue of £85,000 per club or
£1,190,000 over 14 clubs. More again would come from those without season tickets.
Must be worth a punt?
'"
Did you tell the RFL it was all your own work as well?
