Listened to to the London Rugby League fans forum podcast and Gus Mackay stated that the club were in the hunt for 6-7 marquee players which will allow Quins to challenge next year.

Hopefully we can pull off some big name signings, would love to have Lockyer here, but we can always dream I suppose.
Anyone know which players we're in discussion with?

I think there's been a misunderstanding here - what they are actually looking for is 6 or 7 players to help them put up a marquee.

Hopefully they will pull off a few good signings and start to challenge a bit more, generate a bit more interest in London if they start winning similar to Melbourne in Aus

Good for SL if there are 14 teams rather than just 11 teams that we have at the moment. If London, Widnes and Crusaders have markedly improved squads for 2012 then it can only be good for SL, England and grass-roots development.

A few-hundred thousand pounds and the fortunes of the whole sport can really grow.

Genuinely hope that we can see every team go into the start of next season with a genuine shot at the play-offs in 2012, although hopefully the London side can convince a few big players to join the team in the big city, they might want a large wage, but if you want the bigger names you have to pay the bigger wages, unless you want marquee signings to be less than larger than life.

They let their biggest name player go last year - LMS.

Quins should have held onto some of the very good players they already had.

I would like to see Quins sign some good players, they don't have to be 'big name' but one or two would be good.

Coming from a marketing perspective, I would love to see them sign up a couple of RU players.

I think if they can manage to hang on to a lot of their squad they should at least be able to compete in NL1 next season. But they are right, they will probably need some good signings to be able to challenge for trophies.

Without being too negative, don't Quins run at a massive loss. So, bringing in Big name players, means paying Big Bucks and increasing the amount they lose on a yearly basis. Sure Hughes will be happy about that.

I suppose they hope some big name players could bring in an extra thousand people per game and hope to sell more shirts etc. If that doesn't happen as a result then it will be a fail, unless they happen to be really succesful and play in the big games.

It seems a risky strategy, but good luck to them. And as you say hopefully it'll pull in the crowds and become a consistent play-off team. On the other hand, it could be the end of them if they can't get the support in and the players don't perform

We hear this every year that we're signing players, yet it's always just contract renewals.
If by "big", they mean Kouparitsas, then no thank you.
