| I have no wish to open old wounds, but I feel that debate is waranted with regard to the 4% drop (450 a game) decline in attendances in the NRL thus far.
96 fixtures will have been completed by Monday night, 50% of the season.
SoO looks like it could get 186,000 fans in 3 games, so why on gods name are the fans not rolling up to regular games? With record club memberships, is enough being done by the clubs/NRL to get fans to games as neutrals?
How many RL fans in Sydney will try and get to 4 games this weekend? Is there a special ticket that would encourage this level of support? Would special 3 game/4 game weekend discounted ticket vouchers be a good idea to include in next seasons non-ticketed memberships? Quick glance at pricing shows that if you want covered seats then you could be looking at $160 for the weekend.......would a $100 ticket work?
This weekends weather is looking settled, with a few showers on Saturday evening, so I predict that by Monday, the average crowds will be ahead of 2010....119,727 needed to make it so

If you read some of the stuff on here you would think the posters attend every possible game - sadly they watch every game on the TV and hypocritically call all those who attend games.
I think the quality/style of the rugby doesn't help - we get 3/4 games a week here in the UK and a few highlights apart - e.g. Bulldogs v Dragons - the games have been pretty grim.
One of the problems the game has is the inability to produce real quality centres in numbers - this limits the attacking options and putting the ball through hands is often abandoned for a kick - sadly. More ground is gained through scoots from dummy half than structured attacking play.
Perhaps an attitude of "if we don't score we can't win" rather than a "If we don't conceed we can't lose"

A miserable 450 people a game - lets hope your arrogance is matched by the people who run the clubs.
You haven't got a clue as to why attendances are dropping so don't pretend you do

| Reasons:
1. Cost
2. Poor stadia + poor weather
3. Low/poor media profile of NRL
4. Clueless/skint NRL marketing dept
5. clueless/skint NRL club marketing dpt's
6. Lack of fans for the game in proximity to teams
7. No WA team (ok I made this one up!)

| It turned into a bitch feast jb, before I became a mod there was about 20 pages deleted and numerous warnings given out.
So I edited and locked it, it's still there all up to date but now we can argue on the discussion thread.

| Maybe if some of the people here in the know looked at QLD for a start, they'd realise that people who have lost everything have a few things on their mind instead of footy.
Maybe they could look at the Monday night games this year played in stadiums with stuff all cover being affected by some of the wettest weather we have seen in years.
Monday is a crowd killer as it is, but to play at Brooky and Penrith in ing down rain with no cover doesn't help.
Then you could also look at which teams are firing and which ones are not.

Did the floods effect Townsville and the Gold Coast?
Are they playing more games on a Monday nights this year?
St George look similar to last year Brisbane are going better, Melbourne have more to play for etc.
So in other words you have no idea as to why the crowds are dropping!!

Cyclone yasi hit Townsville before the season kicked off, google it and learn something.
And since when do all of the Titans supporters come from the Gold Coast, isn't it 40 mins away from Brisbane?
Or are you saying it's only in Australia that you have to follow your local team?
Quote ="Sal Paradise"Are they playing more games on a Monday nights this year?'"
Most probably seeing as we have one nearly every week and only a few teams don't have them.
Quote ="Sal Paradise"St George look similar to last year Brisbane are going better, Melbourne have more to play for etc.'"
Saint george are up but it will come down now seeing as their big games in big stadiums have been played.
Brisbane had a 1 in 100 year flood this year, thousands of people lost everything, many people lost their lives and you think this doesn't affect the footy, they are down compared to last year even though they are performing better and considering it was the first time in 20 years they missed a finals last year, that should tell you something.
All Brisbane crowds are down in every code bar the Reds who couldn't get any lower than they were and have started to win for the first time in a decade.
Melbourne got busted for cheating last year and their crowds dropped like a brick, it's going to take a few years for them to get back to where they were as they embarrassed a lot of people down there and have also hurt not only themselves, but the code as well.
Quote ="Sal Paradise"So in other words you have no idea as to why the crowds are dropping!!'"
No, I think I have more of an idea than some muppet living in another country who only wants to take pot shots and troll non stop.

EPL soccer?
Well yeah it gets great crowds, it should seeing as your country has 3 times our population in a space the size of Tasmania and no other major sports over there to compete against.
Please think before posting if possible.

Point 1 was about cost, you obviously have no idea what it costs to watch EPL - it doesn't stop 70k going to watch Man U every other week, and 60k to watch Arsenal every other week. So why would it be a limiting factor for the NRL - are Australians that much worse off - your economy has to be in a better state than ours?
Maybe you need some reading and comprehension lessons before posting again?

| Manchester population v say Newcastle is? Besides you should know the hype and media for soccer here compared to the profile of RL in Oz is incomparable. Re cost it isn;t that much more, in fact some of the best seats in the NRL are comparable to some EPL teams.
I honestly believe that a large % of RL fans live out of cities in NSW and Q'land (check TV ratings for regional viewing) where as in Perth, Melbourne etc they have big populations living in close proximity to teams. Add in Sydneys attitude to following live sport and you have your answer.

Look you idiot, some people out here travel 12 hours one fooking way to watch their team play once a fortnight.
Just STFU about RL in Australia, you and your couple of mates here have NFI.
England isn't even as big as Tasmania, have you seen the size of our CONTINENT?

It's like talking to a brick bloody wall with some of this mob.
The average is up this year.
Some may have a point if the draw was the same as last year and the year before.
But it's not.
There are plenty of big games to come yet and we are already doing better than last year.
Instead of going round by round to see if it's up, how about looking at the individual games against the same teams last year, that tells the real story.

No animosity, its just a fact. if you look at any of the sports clubs in Sydney and factor in popualtion size live sport doesn;t draw big crowds generally like many other places.
London was great, had a wander around soho showing the missus some of the sights!
Been at CP today for the derby, geez if we had atmospheres like that at games we'd sell them out in oz!
From the bright lights of East Hull to Venice next.
