| On a comprehensive win tonight, and turning up in the thousands to see your team win.
Before you all start the RL should have been much more sensible with this and I realise that, that having it on a Friday night does not give the fans time to get to the game, but Gateshead will be dissapointed with 402 as when some of the lower teams play a SL team, getting half the gate reciepts really helps for the rest of the season!

The RFL are giving the clubs that reached this stage of the cup a lump sum this year to cover the fact that Super League season ticket holders get in free this round.
If Gateshead had drawn a team with a bigger support base they probably wouldn't have made any more money as that team will have more season ticket holders.

| If they'd drawn a team like Wigan/Saints/Leeds, you could have potentially had locals going to watch, just because they'd heard of the away side.

| Can't exactly blame Quins fans for not travelling on a Friday night to Gateshead. I wouldn't either if i lived in London. It wasn't ever going to be a tight, thrilling game.

Oi less of that! Most Widnes fans who post on here (myself included) will freely admit that our recent on-field performances have varied between woeful and mediocre regardless of ref, pitch, fans etc.
In case it isn't obvious from his username and avatar, wakeytom is a Wakefield fan who likes to come on here and whine and whinge about how rubbish Widnes are every time they lose (ie most weeks recently).

| And, as much as I'll get slagged for this, we, of course, would have taken thousands up to Gateshead on a Friday night. Or, say, across the M62 to Chorley on a Friday night in a Challenge Cup tie. Attendance that night at Victory Park? 696. Pot, kettle, black.

No it doesn't, only damage done is to the OP.
Live in the NE so I went along to the game but not a supporter of either side, was never going to be competetive. But any excuse for a meal and a few beers in Newcastle.

| I think some of the OPs criticism is aimed at the RFL for scheduling this game on a Friday.
Had it been on a Sunday afternoon there may well have been a following from London as well as curious locals and a few Union fans wanting to know what Harlequins RL were all about.

In fairness 402 isn't that much less than Quins get for a home SL fixture.

That was actually more of my point, I do often criticise the attendance at Quins but this is well and truly aimed at the RFL who continue to do stupid things like this, when a team in the lower leagues should at least have the decency of been able to pick up some "walk in" trade from the local community, and giving the opposition fans the chance to see the game!

| The RFL didn't put the game on friday night, FYI.
Gateshead and Quins sorted out when this fixture was going to take place.

OK then, the decision makers at Gateshead & Harlequins ought to have their heads checked.

How is it the RFL's fault when the two clubs will have sorted it out??
They could have taken the match down to London for the higher gate and therefore higher split revenue. But, the two clubs get a lump sum to compensate for the fact that so many folk have free tickets to fourth round matches with their season tickets. Quins have struggled with crowds this season anyway, so they're unlikely to pull a crowd for it to be cost effective. The Union club also played today and Gateshead would have had to travel, which would have cost them money they can't afford.
As for playing at Gateshead, perhaps the club thought it would create more of a spectacle having the match on a friday night, thus creating more of a pull and a higher gate. Or, perhaps the stadium is booked this weekend, seen as Thunder share it with other sporting clubs. Or, perhaps they decided to play it on Friday, so the team, who are part timers, can have a weekend with their families.
