started by the folks at 'rugby league planet', will be a long hard slog just for the RLIF to even notice it, seeing as theyve only just found out about the mess in the US, but the more the merrier. Current laws are a joke.
Thanks guys.

Irrespective of actual legal nationality or their nation of residence? No sport in the world has such stupid ill-thought out rules that ignore the reality of migration.
And why not players born in Australia, New Zealand or English.
It's nonsense.

Agreed, a lot of other people on other forums have disagreed with the last bit on the petition page, one bit in which i am not happy with.
However the whole thing is a positive step toward a better International scene

| The problem isnt players switching eligibility, its the reason why they need to switch eligibility.
If we get more games for the emerging nations then we will remove the need to switch.
We should play a round robin tournament throughout the season between England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and France, and play as GB picking the players from those nations (obviously except France) in the four nations, and revert to the Home Nations for the world cup.
Give Danny Brough a reason to choose to stick with Scotland, give him and the others regular, high profile games and the opportunity to play in the four nations and they wont need to switch nations.
We can then use the actual international competition between these nations as our warm up/trial/proving ground for the four nations if thats what you want rather than the ridiculous 'other nations' game.
We can see players like Brough stick with Scotland, Carvell go back to Wales, players like Rhys Evans wont need to switch to England, and because of this it will raise the standard of the Scottish, Welsh and Irish national sides making it a closer more intense competition.

actually that is the problem.......well partly
the core RLIF eligibility laws are no different to any other sporting governing body (birth, residency & heritage) the problem lies in the fact that the RLIF is selfserving in the fact that its top 4 officials run the ARL,NRL,RFL & NZRL...therefor they can and do allow player to switch nations to their nations....
we need a independent RLIF if anything

An independent RLIF wont help the problem.
Danny Brough will still be left with the same choice he has now. Either give up on ever playing top tier rugby league or turn his back on Scotland.
Until there is a viable alternative then players will take a nationality of convenience.
If Scotland were playing top level RL this year, or Scottish RL players were eligible to play top level RL for a GB team, he wouldnt need to swap.

So he would never have played for Scotland and we would have fewer players playing international rugby.

| so be it.....
would players normally wait till there 28/29 to turn out for england??? no!!!
the fact is players like brough turned out for scotland because at the time they were'nt good enought for england...so they should be made responsible for their choices...
i mean wtf has dale ferguson decided to play for england??? he'll never catch yet he'll defo be in a 17 scotland squad....

Would players wait until 28/29 to play for England if it (as it is now) was their only chance to play in a top tier international game? yes.
Do you know the last time Scotland played one of the big three in a full international? In your plan, Brough wont choose to ever play for Scotland because playing for Scotland means you are giving up on playing against Aus/Eng/NZ
as for Ferguson what is he actually giving up by nailing his colours to Englands mast?

| I think there should be both competitive and financial benefits to playing for Second Tier Nations. I think these sides need competitive fixtures, and a chance to play serious rugby for Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy and France.

Why
despite asking the above question no one has ever being able to answer it.
It would be the solutionto many problems.
