League super league?
Sounds a bit special to me. I can see the reasoning behind it though. That feeling of frustration you get when you realise the person you are talking to has no idea that there are 2 types of rugby, is far too common!

Yes I agree, but replacing it with "league" isn't going to improve the situation. I mean yeah, there are two rugbys, but there are millions of leagues!

Hockey seem to be able to distinguish between there 2 codes, why cant rugby

Because there are a lot more obvious differences between field hockey and ice hockey than there are between rugby league and rugby union.

I wouldn't be adverse to dropping the word 'rugby' at all, and refer to the sport as 'league' most of the time anyway.

There are TWO codes of RUGBY, wish the other code would stop calling itself RUGBY, its the media who is at fault the upper class code and its stuck up writers

When living in civilised places like Leyth, 'rugby' can only mean RL anyway. Keep as it is.

Exactly,but it pi55es me off when you here the union fans trying to claim the name of rugby.
You should see what some of them say on union forums about us calling it rugby,they say we have no right to do so,fook em.

Leave them to it. RL fans have just as much right as RU fans to refer to the game as rugby, and vice-versa.

Trademark it, market it, promote it

Stick it on everything RL especially if it moves.

As it stands the 2nd option is all that people on here care about and the game is slowly losing interest amongst the larger populace.

At the end of the day we are rugby league and we always will be and not this league garbage.
I know a few Aussies call it league or footy but I could not care less.

Its quite simple.

Just call it 'Footy' like we do in civilised countries.


'Football' is Soccer


AFL is also referred to as footy, most people just know it as AFL though

To be honest, I'd like to see
'Huddersfield Giants, Spheroid Game (13 Variety) Super League Champions 2011'

I'd be more inclined to drop the 'League' bit and prefix 'Rugby' with some superlative and then hammer that name home with a huge and never ending PR.

That would eventually get the RU authorities in a knicker twist as their attempts to hijack the word 'Rugby' gets gazumped. They've successfully pinched the 'Rugby World Cup' title from us and anyone who thinks their persistent use of the word rugby, without the Union bit, is anything but an attempt to cut RL out is just being naive.
