Understandable.
Other sides have come over and played 'warm up' matches in front of half a dozen supporters against Harlequins in London. What a waste of time.
St Scum have decided to get their other trial match out of the way in Sydney before they have to come over to the UK for the WCC.... a game which is a total waste of time and effort but hey ho.....
Good to see they have agreed to play Wigan at Wigans home ground too.
The only people who will be interested in this one will be Wigan supporters anyway.... pretty pointless to make them travel somewhere else. It's highly unlikely there will actually be any actual genuine St Scumawarra supporters going along. I've lived in London for a while now and I have never met any other Aussies here who claim to go for them.

Read the St george forums, I went on about a couple of weeks ago and there were quite a few planning the trip over, or wishing that they could.
As for only Wigan fans being interested, I'm an FC fan and I'm interested, and I'd bet quite a few Saints fans are interested, what with St George also having the Red Vee and playing against Wigan..

That always makes me smile... St Helens supporters also supporting St G*orge simply because they both start with 'St' and have a red chevron
I go for Cronulla... it's like me suddenly declaring my support for Hull FC just because their change strip is blue and white and they were once known as Hull Sharks.
edit: I can see why some St Helens fans would go along purely to see if Wigan get a flogging ... but they would support anyone that was playing Wigan i'm sure

| Can't be that pointless if you've decided to use the time and effort to start a thread about it. Another boring post from Barry that I could only be bothered to read the first few lines of before getting bored.

I fail to see a joke, broadly the games achieved the aims for both the Harlequins club and the Australian opposition. A warm-up match could only be railed upon were it to advertised as anything more than that, or a trophy attributed to it, and neither were the case. The Manly Sea Eagles and Melbourne Storm played in English conditions, against English players, under English referees, etc and Harlequins learnt that Australians in the capital have no interest in the Super League, save for when a club with several well-known Australian NRL players are in their side, ie Warrington with Matt King, Michael Monaghan and Chris Hicks. The London players got to play against superior opposition, and a fully antipodean outfit with all of their different skills, systems and style.
As you say can't be bothered to read the post, but prepared to have a dig at a warm-up fixture anyway.

| How come if the Aussies arn't the best at an event it doesn't matter anymore? WCC and International RL being the two that they don't seem interested in these days.

Probably because the Australian sporting nation is second only to the average six year old child when it comes to attitude
If they win, they are the best in the world... if they lose, they weren’t even trying and weren’t that bothered anyway
I think Australia is the only country in the world that’s capable of throwing a tantrum. My theory is that because as a country it is so irrelevant in the world they only have to use sport to try and make themselves seen or heard... kind of like a child again trying to act up for attention – it’s infuriating but at the same time understandable

| I was hoping we (Leigh) might get the warm up game due to proximity to Wigan and the obvious links between Ian Millward and St George.
Bit gutted really, St George are my NRL team too.

Well done for beginning the usual "Aussies don't care about the WCC [size=80(but if we win it's clear evidence we're far superior)[/size" in record time.
If the ockers don't care, they shouldn't play it. If they do, the result stands with as much validity as any other. Excuses, even those made in advance, count for nothing.

Couldn't agree with you more.
Sadly the WCC is a contractual obligation though.
Needs changing in my opinion. What is the point in flying 12,000 miles for a one off meaningless match in a freezing country against a superleague side when they could be playing a decent trial match back home against the type of side they will be playing against week in week out?
Crazy.
But there ya go.

| You Aussies can be as aloof as you like when it comes to the WCC. Ultimately it is a great event that (unlike recent Internationals) has not been glittered with Aussie dominance.
For a nation of migrants you really are an insular bunch.

| St George Illawarra are simply getting their excuses in order.
Not organising a warm up game in the UK means SGI can point to 'lack of preparation', 'no time to acclimatise' and 'bad timing' if they lose. All typical Aussie whinges which are trotted out every time they get a pasting.

Erm... it isn't, actually. Weren't SGI banging on about 'not being obliged to play' the game only a few weeks ago?
As for quality of opposition in the WCC - look at the record books.

| It's a fantastic showcase for the sport in the UK, probably the best thing that Uncle Morris the turf accountant ever did, and a great boost for the game in the UK.
Who can forget Wigan winning in Brisbane? Widnes coming back from miles behind to beat Canberra at Old Trafford? Saints last gasp win a couple of years back?
It's a one-off game for clubs to call themselves best in the world, and its an event that RU would love to have, that cricket have tried to emulate, and that soccer wishes their version was as important.
PS - I'd expect a Sharkie to hate St George, they're south but not of the Shire, which is unforgivable...
