Just got into work and an email pointing me [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/clientdocs/Challenge%20Cup%20Brochure.pdfhere[/url was in my inbox. Would be great if a decent cup sponsor could be found, but I wonder why I received it?
Anyone else get this email?

Rugby League need to draw big sponsors, the information in that PDF is very good and highlights the opportunity a company has to sponsor one of the UK top competitions.

If they are using data collected a while back when I subscribed to the RFL newsletter then maybe I put my job description in? Can't remember if I am honest....but even if I did, the data is 12 months out of date as I have been in NZ for almost a year.
Point is, the type of cash they will be asking commands more than an email.......it would require a team of maybe 4 or 5 RFL bods, including a heavy hitter and at least 1 decent sles person to visit every brand manager in the UK. |

just reading through that, 108 live games a year, including 69 live SL games on sky sports.
Thats a bit 'creative' in my opinion.
Surely if it was honest it'd 69 SL games live on sky sports, where the challenge cup doesn't exist.

The ground advertising would still be in the background, but I dare say it's cheaper to purchase that match-by-match rather than taking the title sponsorship. |

but with decent email marketing software they will be able to tell who opened the email, who forwarded it to a colleague, who opened it more than once etc etc....they will then be able to tell who is most likely to be interested and a good target for a follow up. |

This is pretty bog standard and tells you who received, opened acted on etc....but as their was no forward to a friend button on the email.......they can't tell if it''s been forwarded...but they can assume.
Neither here nor there really........as I said, this type of proposal is better pitched face to face with brand managers of decent size companies.......not sent out in an untargeted email.
BTW.....SKY TV do show the Challenge cup......just not in the UK. |

The only company I can see that would be suitable to sponsor an English Rugby League competition would be 'Lawrence and Foster' of Castleford.
Their products would be perfect for British RL as well as a nice pint of warm flat weak British 'beer' down 't Woolpack

Tobacco sponsorship banned in the UK in 2003. Is there any reason why alcohol sponsors seemed to have moved away from us as major sponsors and now have become minor shirt sponsors. I'd imagine it would be the returns the company got against shirt sponsorship, but it seemed in the early days of SL quite a few teams had Fosters, Tetley's or McEwans Lager.
