| Aye, let's go back to those high profile days under David Oxley when the RFL was raking in the profits and RL was lead item on all the national sports bulletins.

Yes. John Smith's, Regal and Silk Cut are all more world-renowned names than Gillette.

| It must be wonderful in those Ivory SL towers, looking down on the rest of the game
Seriously though, they should have a set period of being in charge, they are custodians, it shouldn't be an endless career to do what they want with RL.
p.s. Ive still got 4 cans of Slalom lager in the cellar, nectar of the gods

Ah yes, Gillette who were once a major sponsor for a full season, who now take pity and donate to a couple of England games.
Our official sponsors in some limiting capacity are Engage, Carnegie, Iron Bru, Gillette, Front Line, Cooperative, 2XU, Royal Navy obviously blue chip companies of the future, to make our sport a truly great one.

One or two world wide known brands in that list. Not too bad in my opinion.

| All jokes aside, yes we have some nice sounding sponsors on board, but you cant really compare that to the old days and different times, a more suitable comparison would have been other sports of a similar size, for which im sure you will find equally impressive sponsors, and that should lead you to the conclusion, that attracting sponsors is 'part of their job'
What many of the SL Club fans fail to see is the closed shop Franchising system is making a mockery of the sport and will ultimately make the game beaneth and above the 'Wood-Lewis' cut off 'stale'. The game will not grow beneath SL because the dream is destroyed, the integrity of sport shattered by two people for whom marketing is seemingly being put ahead of sport and competition.
I whole heartedly agree with the gentlemen or Lady that commented that we still can't beat the Aussies, so show me the improvement against that yardstick?
And as for Clubs in SL being allowed to develop youth with stability!? Really? come on, get real. We'll watch that one with interest.
Now finally, Clubs managing finances, thats upto clubs in my book, its called the real world, competition, theres other ways to tackle yo yo clubs and boom and bust within Sport.
Sad days, unfortunately the one eyed man in this land of the blind, wont be king anytime soon.
Good luck enjoy your Rugby.

Thats my point, its not who we have past and present but who we should attract to give the sport some credability. O2, Vodaphone, Emirates, Guinness, BMI, Virgin, RBS would do for starters.

No, you said that Gillette have used to sponsor for a whole season and now they sponsor less. What did they used to sponsor?
And we as a sport have moved away from alcohol sponsors for competitions.
It seems your point is that we should get rid of our two tops guys because they are not attracting sponsors that we have never had (despite attracting better sponsors than we have ever had). It's ridiculous. They're doing a great job, the best we've ever seen, and you're still not happy and want more.
Great way to run a business.

Virgin sponsor the Jamaican team. Alitalia sponsor the European Cup. Gillette and Vodaphone are both involved in rugby league. Didn't RBS nearly go pop?

Too right I,m not happy, Rugby League is a great product but is being devalued out of media and sporting presence.
Richard Lewis is a dead duck now, if you bother to search his new job brief for sporting england, you will find he has to operate with contraints and show impartiality. Which means he can no longer be directly involved in financial links to rugby league.
Nigel Wood is dedicated to rugby league but has made too many mistakes and created too many gimmicks along the way. Typical example is the millenium/magic weekend and RL expansion.

Crowds up, record RFL profits, advance planning of international competition, Championship games on TV every week, two teams in Wales, clubs being forced to improve facilities for supporters - I can see why you're so upset at how this numpty has run RL recently.
