ive always thought it was nearly impossible for talented nsw aboriginal and TSI players to get picked for nsw
mundine only picked on the bench and played when the game was gone, preston never picked, blacklock overlooked, peachy struggled to get in.
its one reason why ive struggled to support my home state in their continued snubbing of star aboriginal players over less talented and safe white ones

| The fact Merritt keeps getting overlooked for a centre or fullback says it all.

You constantly go on about how important defence is in origin - if that was your criteria you would never have picked Campbell nor Blacklock and on Mundine I suppose it was him or Fittler - no contest really nothing to do with skin tone?
Queensland team simply represents the ratio of ethnic players to the whole - I doubt very much that QRL exhibts positive discrimination it is just the quality of the current crop cannot be ignored. Do you think Thurston, Inglis, Folau, Pedro, Tonga etc are getting picked because they are the best available and just happen to be ethnic or there are better non ethnic players available who are being discriminated against?
If Thurston/Inglis was available for NSW do you think they would be overlooked through discrimination?

its a fallacy to think good attacking players cant tackle
ive said this before, imo, if you are a talented black player, its much easier to get picked for queensland than nsw.
we go with players like gidley, timmins or players like that
queensland said before, if preston campbell was a queenslander theyd have picked him
sailor, tuqiri, tonga, folau, inglis, thurston ....
nsw - peachy & ????

Nobody is saying good attackers can't defend - just Campbell and Blacklock have/had shocking defence
So what about Hayne - he is Fijian extraction? Tahu his mother is aboriginal?
Anthony Tupou - Tongan, El Mazri - Lebanese, Michael Jennings
The list of ethnic players who have played for NSW is pretty long - you argument simply doesn't stack up - nothing new there

| NSW were absolutely pathetic today. QLD were great i know, but NSW need to put a broom through the whole place and start again. Coach, selectors, everybody has to go. They need to give guys like Barrett, Cooper etc the boot and pick a younger team that will be playing for the next 5 years and more.
Matt Cooper, does he ever look anything but poor when playing for NSW? He's been poor today, he was poor in game 1 before he went off injured. In 2008 he was just as bad. The guy is meant to be one of the best defensive centres in the game, he offers nothing going forward.
O'Donnell and Gallen are penalty machines but everyone knows what they do, the pack are second best everytime. When they do attack they dont look threatening and it's too predictable.
They should sack everyone now and get a new coach and selectors for game 3 and go with a team that's going to play next year. I'd like to see Dugan get a run, even off the bench instead of Gidley. Bring Jennings and Idris in the centres, they offer more than Cooper and Scott. Keep Mitch Pearce at halfback and put either Sutton/Soward/Campese in there with him. Morris and Uate on the wings. The series is gone so try something different. Then again, they'll probably bring Kimmorley back and play Gidley at FB etc and keep losing with "experienced" players. 6-0 coming up next year.

| Agree with Idris and Jennings. I'd probably give Campese the nod with Pearce. Ennis has to go with Farah coming in.
These lads can be brought in with a clear mandate that they will start game 1 next year regardless of the result. In the past when NSW have chopped and changed its been OK because the gap between them and Qld wasn't so big. Now its enormous and won't be closed unless they blood some kids and start to build some team spirit IMO.

| This was a terrible game - quality wise - given NSW's inability to compete does this suggest that depth of quality in the NRL is not what it once was or is that Queensland have an exceptional side?

| QLD have a great side and we have idiots picking the same useless mob year in year out.
Time for the coach and selectors to go, they've been esp cr@p since 1 L Daley has been involved.
