| Would be great to get him over here but would he not be looking at NRL clubs first. Which NRL clubs are looking for a new coach in 2011?

| Got to love the quote.
"If an offer does come, you could say Mal will consider it. St Helens only chase top-level coaches and he certainly fits into that category. He is someone who deserves to be considered for such a prestige job."

| I wouldn't call Meninga a top-level coach, he is a fruit salesman, yes fair enough Queensland have done well recently, but anyone could coach the current Queensland side to victory, look at the players they have.
Having said that I wouldn't have called Brian Mclennan a top level coach either, but hes done OK

| I'm surprised Meninga hasn't been involved in club coaching in recent years. I wonder why that it is?

| The more top coaches in Super League the better. Meninga at Saints and Ricky Stuart for Catalans.

| Saints are after a big name to put bums on seats at their new place.
Mal could be the name they are looking for.
As for his coaching credentials, as has been mentioned, why has he gone so long without an NRL club if he's that good? His time at Canberra didn't bring success and eventually he was released.
As for Queensland, who couldn't they beat with those players?

Maguire also didn't have an NRL job (No one would give him one) and he didn't win a thing in his time at Melbourne, coaching them to last place each season.

What's up Ted? Are you scared we will end up with a better coach than Wigan have got.

| People are saying where's the quality British coaches when in reality if we want to catch the aussies we need as many QUALITY aussie coaches and their methods as possible. We've already seen the dramatic improvement in Hudds and Wigan, Wire (in fact any T Smith team barr Eng) and it's the way forward imo. Let British coaches learn under these guys (Lowes, Anderson et al) and start again in a few years.
imo definately the way to go

| Its idiocy to suggest anyone could coach Queensland to Origin success.
He's on the verge of an unprecedented five series wins in a row....after the Maroons had lost three successive series prior to his appointment - and failed to win outright any of the previous four.
At club level, he had Canberra at a time when their personnel wasn't great and I think he'd certainly pack them in at the new Saints ground for sure.
But, at 50, I'm not sure he's the cutting edge coach the Saints youngsters need and the way he's kept Saints dangling for 25 years over a return to the club makes me sceptical that its about anything more than money - or inducing Queensland to up their contract to keep him on.

Didn't they change the eligibility rules in Queensland's favour after that losing spell though?
Let's be honest, the Queensland squad is FAR superior to the NSW squad. The key players like Slater/Inglis/Lockyer/Thurston/Smith etc have played for Oz together for years and years, with Slater/Inglis/Smith playing in the same team every week.
They have better players, and players who have played together more often - they should win SOO every year at the moment and they do.

| Meninga's club coaching record is poor and it is why he hasn't been able to secure a NRL job. Terrible appointment for any Super League club.

I know it's tongue in cheek, but that's not strictly true.
