| Best outcome from the situation. Mcnamara's the best of the four coaches (not meant as a compliment) AND we might get rid of McDermott to the Bulls! Win win situation for a Quins and England fan.

| Don't know how good McNamara would be as England coach (the job's a bit different from coaching at club level), but if Brian McDermott goes to Odsal, God help the Bulls!

| What this thread highlights to me is that we still consider the England coach to be a job required for 5 weeks a year - the French match midyear and the 4 Nations
The England coach should be monitoring and testing players throughout the year and needs to be given the time with the squad during the season to develop a team environment
As a sport, we are even more club dominated than soccer which has designated international weekends
We have less playing talent at our disposal than the Aussies and if we are going to go to the 4 Nations down under with any chance, the England coach should be given the resources and time required to forge a team
Until we reach that point, it doesn't really matter who is appointed to the position, they are always going to be on the back foot
I guess we need a real commitment from all within the sport that the international scene is more important than the club game... the irony is of course that international success for England would be a real shot in the arm for the club game

one of the better statements on this subject-well said.

| Well, regarding the lack of playing talent, this is something I've been banging on about for ages. But that's mainly due to how I feel SL is failing in terms of increasing the number of clubs yet reducing the number of players those clubs can have.
however, just looking on the rfl website, it would appear that the rfl are attempting to correct the low playing numbers with this [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/~therflc/about/jobs_details.php?id=126job[/url
the job is looking to produce 30 world class players for the 2013 world cup.

I think it might more a case of club coaches not having time to coach England as well so their's no other alternative.

Ridiculous comment.
McDermott might well be struggling at the moment, but he has proven himself far more as a coach than McBannana. Doing a far better job with a smaller club and smaller resources.

When, where, with whom? cos it sure isn't us, check his stats as a manager for finishing positions, games lost, especially since June 09.
I wouldn't even foist him on the Bulls, in fact there is no team I dislike enough to want to graft him onto them.

Wayne Bennett would have struggled to have done any better with the same resources available. The guy's job was to turn around that club from a squad packed with overseas to a club nuturing its own talent. You don't think he has succeeded with that?
In 2009 he only lost 1 more game than McBannana. In 2008 he only lost 3 more games.
During that time Bradford were still regarded as one of the big 4. Quinss have never been close to that sort of status.
His record taking into account the club and resources is far better than McBannanas, whether it's good enough for you or not.

Just refresh my memory as to what these 'positives' were mate?
Was it the 44 - 16 flogging in the final (Englands heaviest ever loss to Australia on home soil apparently)
Was it the poms scoring just 15 out of SIXTY ONE total tries scored in total during the tournament?
Maybe it was the way you let Billy Slater score ANOTHER hat trick in the final?
Or the way you kindly let Inglis, Brett Morris and Johnathon Thurston claim player of the tournament, top try scorer and top point scorer respectively??

I'm just referring to 'England'
Hence why I typed 'England'
I shudder to think what 'Great Britain's' records against Australia on home soil are over the years

Sorry, I just needed to clarify seeing as the rest of your people don't know the difference between GB and England.
